Club announcements:

• President Glenn thanked the Club's Board of Directors for the time and effort taken at a special day of strategic planning. Thank you to Jim Forestell for organizing the session and to Warren Thompson as our facilitator. Thanks too to Kristy at the Assiniboine Chamber of Commerce who offered us a meeting space. We've invited Warren and Kristi and their spouses to our Christmas party on Dec. 19.
• on the topic of the Christmas party, members are reminded that Chuck is selling tickets. The cost is $40 per person, same as last year. The program is coming along nicely. It will be a fine night of fellowship.
• President Glenn had the opportunity to attend (virtually) the District's Fall Retreat session held in Regina on the weekend. It was an interesting mix of learning and sharing. President Elect Iain Scott represented the club in person and has already prepared a summary. Peter Tonge attended as District Governor Nominee.
• Mandy contacted Storage Solutions in Headingly and was offered space to store household items for Ukraine families. President Glenn said that when he arrived on Thursday, the storage space was already full. Well done, everyone. Mandy suggested that we take a pause on donations for now. Thanks to all who helped!!

A reminder that the Satellite Virtual Rotary Club of Winnipeg Charleswood meets twice a month via zoom on Wednesdays at 7pm. At one of their upcoming meetings, we will induct the 8 new members collectively. It will be an opportunity for members to login to the virtual club meeting, to meet the new members, and to celebrate the new club. Watch your email for an invitation.

Salvation Army Kettles - Ed Toews confirmed that the club will be responsible for a kettle at Grant Park mall beginning in early December. He'll bring a sign-up sheet to next week's meeting.

Chuck Crocker introduced Hayley Edwards, Executive Director for Urban Stable. The registered charity specializes in assisting teams and individuals to overcome barriers, build confidence and strengthen connections to their education, organizations, and community through working with horses. Hayley is a certified Canadian Therapeutic Riding Association (CanTRA) Senior Instructor, Equestrian Canada Instructor of Beginners and CanTRA instructor mentor. Hayley joined the Urban Stable team in 2014 and has over fourteen years experience in the therapeutic riding and equine facilitated learning industry.

Haley highlighted changes in programming and their move to a new facility north of Stonewall. She thanked Rotary for its financial support and linking Urban Stable with Westgrove School. David Morris thanked Haley for her presentation and gave her a cheque from the club. See more info here.

President Glenn spoke about his nephew who cares full time for Matty, a young man with complex needs. Matty benefits from interactions with animals, knowing that he's rewarded for being calm. Another passion is the RCMP, which was profiled by the CBC the National. See: https://fb.watch/gPq41c2SA2/

Happy Bucks:

• Len Van Roon was happy with the wonderful presentation last week to the Charleswood Historical Society by Jack and Mike, on the Assiniboine Forest.
• Nancy was happy that the Blue Bombers won their game and that a couple of the players are Oak Park alumni.
• John Inglis is excited to be heading to Saskatchewan for the Grey Cup wearing his Blue Bomber jersey. He modelled his jersey for us tonight.
• Lloyd was at the same hotel as the Alouettes were staying at on a recent trip. Four linebackers got in the elevator with him. He glanced up to see a sign in the elevator: Maximum 4. Lloyd was happy to arrive safely at his floor.
• Ed Toews was happy that the Bombers won, but we think even happier that the vanity licence plates for his Dad's truck arrived: DADS54T
• And Len was happy (again) to report that his dad made a successful presentation to the students at Dieppe about Remembrance Day and his experiences with the armed forces.
• President Glenn was happy that Anya remembered to bring Halloween candy to share with members. Thank you Anya for remembering and your generosity!
• Mandy and family hosted several Ukrainian refugees at their home. She showed a photo. It was an opportunity for them to be in a Canadian home, sharing a meal and good company.
