An update to our purple crocus project in February/March 2020 to support the End Polio Now campaign.  We have now received some great photos of some of the 500 bulbs which are now blooming in the gardens of Rotarians and their families and friends.

The purple crocus bulbs were chosen for this project to represent the purple dye that is used to mark the little finger of children who have been vaccinated in endemic countries, which has resulted in millions of children across the world vaccinated against this crippling and deadly disease.

As mentioned by President Di in her last Bulletin “Dialogue”, it was wonderful to receive the news recently that the World Health Organisation (WHO) African region has been declared officially certified free of wild poliovirus.

An incredible achievement indeed and another step towards global eradication of polio.

With the impact of Covid-19 on our lives over the past few months, it has been wonderful to receive so many lovely photos of those little patches of purple crocus popping up in gardens and pots to bring a little Spring joy.
