The 2020 Terry Fox Run: One Day. Your Way.

Terry Fox was diagnosed with cancer as a teenager and had his right leg amputated. Wanting to support cancer research, he went on to inspire cancer patients and Canadians alike by running across Canada to raise awareness and funding.  On July 24, 1980, Terry Fox ran north on Yonge Street through Richmond Hill. The Rotary Club of Richmond Hill believing in the due cause, started organizing the run and have been doing so every year for last 39 years at Mill Pond Park, 321 Mill Street Richmond Hill. And again in 2020. Read more ......

During his momentous cross-country journey, Terry Fox made a stop at Hillcrest Mall and was presented with a cheque for $6000 collected by Cancer Society volunteers and another $2400 donated by Hillcrest Mall merchants. His route through Richmond Hill took him past the very same spot where a Terry Fox Tribute was created in his honour in 2015 located in Ransom Park at Yonge and Centre Streets. Early 1981 when the Terry Fox Foundation was formed and campaigned to have Terry Fox Run corner to corner within Canada.

The Rotary Club of Richmond Hill's very own Nash Azam, a resident of Richmond Hill, and an active community volunteer, has been spearheading the Terry Fox Run in Richmond Hill for past continuous 14 years and to date, thier run has been able to collect over a Million dollars with the support of their community donors and residents and more of our Richmond Hill schools to keep Terry’s dream “a world without cancer” alive as Nash believes! Even if we are able to save One life, we have done our part in this life.

Even with Covid-19 situation. It is still a fundraiser for cancer research. Participants will still register on our website under Richmond Hill Run Site, get up on Sunday September 20th, lace up your running shoes and head out the door. But instead of driving to our beautiful permanent Mill Pond location you will walk, run, bike, hike, wheel a route of your choosing in your own neighborhood, safely.

Our virtual Run mirrors the same passion for Terry, his mission, and your community as every one of the past 39 Runs. The difference: we will unite in spirit, not in person.
