This is the time of year everyone is asking for money. We at HIP (Honouring Indigenous Peoples) are no exception. Since its inception, HIP has had sensational success. More than 100 Rotary clubs have participated in educational projects and awareness activities. Read more and see how you can help....

These have ranged from bursaries to student prizes for cultural involvement, to literacy programs, to playgrounds, supplying computers to fly-in communities, to providing clothes and sports equipment to 20 fly-in communities, to several very successful canoe trips and much needed cultural education.

There have been countless awareness activities through speeches, pow wows and reserve visitations and the very moving and successful Kairos Blanket Exercise. We are discussing with a number of groups about embarking on a nation-wide financial literacy initiative as well as fulfilling the requests for clothes, sports equipment and food - all of which are essential components to a healthy educational environment. We have expanded to the point where we need more than the over 100 volunteers across the country, now working hard to help with our educational and awareness mandate.

There is an unlimited demand for educational initiatives and educational support. Our definition of education includes all of the things mentioned above which allow children and others to learn.

We ask you and your family to consider making a donation to HIP to help fund our ongoing activities. This can be done by writing a cheque and sending it to us at 100 Simcoe Street, Suite 110, Toronto, ON M5H 3G2 or clicking on attached link Rotary HIP - Home (www.rotaryhip.com) which will connect you to our website and to our donate section. By donating to a project or allowing us to designate the best use of the money, you will receive regular communications about the Indigenous Peoples in Canada that HIP and others are supporting. An appeal recently was sent asking for support of the Great Northern First Nation Coat Drive. Your financial donation can be directed to help offset the transportation and delivery costs of the goods collected to the communities.

Much has been done to close the gap on educational opportunities, however, it is still a fact only 36% of Indigenous children finish secondary school versus 72% for the general population. That is just not right. Reconciliation is a long-term process but your support will shorten this by providing young people with opportunities and making Canada a better place for us all.

With best wishes for a good holiday season and a meaningful 2018 for you and your family.

Yours very truly,

Chris
