As we start out on a new Rotary Year, we all welcome Beth Selby as our District Governor Elect. Here is her first newsletter to Rotarians in District 7070 and she has chosen this opportunity to let you get to know her better as she tells us about herself and her family.....

My fellow Rotarians,

While I officially joined Rotary International with the Rotary Club of Belleville in 2004, my involvement with Rotary began in 1993 when my husband and I were counsellors for a Rotary Youth Exchange student. Upon retirement, I transferred to the Rotary Club of Cobourg and was Club President in 2015-2016.  For the past two years, I have been an Assistant Governor supporting the Rotary Clubs of Bowmanville, Oshawa, and Oshawa-Parkwood.

I spent almost thirty years in public education.  I was a secondary school teacher, program consultant, secondary school vice-principal and principal, and superintendent of education.  I completed my Bachelor of Applied Science undergraduate degree in Family Studies at the University of Guelph.  I completed all of my education degrees at the University of Toronto.  My Doctor of Education degree in Curriculum, Teaching and Learning was conferred in 2005.  I was a Faculty Advisor with Nipissing University supervising Teacher Candidates in both the Concurrent and Consecutive Bachelor of Education programs, and was also a Supervisor of Teacher Interns with the University of New Brunswick.

In addition to my involvement in Rotary, I am currently the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Northumberland Hills Hospital.  I also serve on the Board of Directors of the Northumberland YMCA.

My husband, Rotarian Barry Vail, and I currently live in Baltimore just north of Cobourg with our Miniature French Poodle, Clicquot.  Sons Jason and his three children live in St. Catharines, and Matthew and his wife and their daughter live in Whitby.

I am enjoying meeting fellow District Rotarians and being introduced to the Presidents-Elect with whom I will be working in the 2019-2020 Rotary year.  Look for me at an upcoming meeting!

Beth
