My fellow Rotarians,

It's that time of year where our District 7070 will be holding two events on Saturday, April 28, 2018 to promote HIV/AIDS awareness across the globe. Due to the vast geographical span of our District, Toronto has worked in tandem with Belleville to put on two walks so that all clubs have an opportunity to participate somewhere not too far from home. We encourage you to once again participate through your support and attendance in 2018.

This year for our residual beneficiary, we our promoting an HIV/AIDS organization that helps our First Nations communities in our province:  Ontario Aboriginal HIV/AIDS Strategy.  The Ontario Aboriginal HIV/AIDS Strategy was created by a steering committee composed of government representatives, researchers, community representatives and people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.  The goal of the strategy is to provide culturally respectful and sensitive programs and strategies to respond to the growing HIV/AIDS epidemic among Aboriginal Peoples in Ontario, through promotion, prevention, long-term care, treatment and support initiatives consistent with harm reduction principles.  The strategy is a provincially mandated AIDS service organization that provides outreach and support services, through regional outreach workers, to off-reserve Aboriginal Peoples who are living with or affected by HIV/AIDS.

Every year, our district strives for the best possible turnout so that we have reason to continue this annual event.  That large turnout is only possible with leaders encouraging their family, friends, and fellow Rotarians to attend and raise funds.  Remember, the work the organizations do can only really be understood from the mouths of their volunteers.  We encourage you to come and join us on April 28th for a day of fellowship and education.  Some of the charities who are attending to speak include OAHAS, PWA, Stephen Lewis Foundation, and APAA.  We recommend that you consider all these charities for your generous donations.  Remember, 75% of what your club raises goes to a charity of your choice.

Hope to see you there!

Thank you,

Nick Ryall
