Millbrook Rotary’s 2016 Scholarships Awarded

Each year Millbrook Rotary awards scholarships to members of Millbrook High School’s graduating class. This year Millbrook Rotarian Brian Fried presented four awards. None of the awards are in honor of academic achievement but are based on merit, character, leadership, and commitment.

Benjamin Yager received the Rotary scholarship for “service above self,” which is given to a student who best exemplifies service to our community.

The William and Mary HasBrouck scholarship is in honor of former Millbrook Rotarian Bill HasBrouck and his wife, who were deeply involved in the conservation of the natural environment and education. It is awarded to a student who pursues an environmental or agricultural career or who plans to enter the teaching profession. This year it was granted to future teacher Laura DeBella.

Each year the guidance counselors and shop teachers at Millbrook High School choose the recipient of the Vol Mason scholarship, given in honor of former Millbrook Rotarian Vol Mason, who was also superintendent of schools for Millbrook. He strongly believed that students learn differently and encouraged students to go to BOCES. So this award is given to a student who has excelled through that program. This year the scholarship was split equally between Adam Lawlor and Coleen Covert.
