Who:

The Grand Junction Area Rotary Clubs and Powderhorn Ski Resort are sponsoring the Red Ball Express as a way to raise funds for local organizations. Rotary Clubs, in addition to other local non-profits looking to raise money, will be selling tickets, as well as Powderhorn all season long at their location. Local media outlets will be providing publicity and awareness for the event to try an increase tickets sales and ensure the whole community is aware of the event. Powderhorn has offered use of the slopes and day of the event resources to ensure the logistics of 100’s of balls rolling down the slopes.

What:

“Red Ball Express” is a fundraising event concept that was originally developed by the Aspen Rotary club, but is currently owned and franchised/licensed by the 4 Durango area Rotary clubs to other Rotary clubs for fundraising purposes. Based loosely on the concept of “rubber duck races,” a “Red Ball” event rolls a group of numbered red exercise balls down a moderate ski slope for a distance of 200-300 yards. Prior to the event, organizers sell tickets to the public that each match up with a possible 2-ball number combination; the person holding the ticket that matches up with the first 2 balls to reach the end of the slope wins a cash prize. Prizes will also be awarded to 2nd and 3rd place (the 3 and 4th balls and the 5th and 6th balls, respectively). The local non-profits keep the rest of the proceeds from the ticket sales to fund its projects and operations. We will offer prize purses of $5,000.00 for first, $2,000.00 for second and $1,000.00 for third.

The Durango area Rotary clubs have raised over $30,000 in revenue in each of the last few years and almost all of that has gone directly to local projects and we would like to do the same for the Grand Valley.

When:

We will be holding the event on March 26th, 2016 and selling tickets up to the day of the event. The event will occur at the end of the day, before the lifts close, but official time is technically TBD at this point.

How:

Non-profits purchase block(s) of tickets (minimum is 50) for $2.50 per ticket and then sell the ticket to the public for $5.00 per ticket, immediately pocketing the difference. To ensure a winner, all tickets purchased by the non-profits must be sold and turned in one day prior to the event. Contact Sherry Wright at sherry@sawadvertising.com or 970-270-3845 to purchase a block of tickets.
