OFFSITE MEETING AT CASA PACIFICA

This week, we are OFFSITE at Casa Pacifica (1722 S Lewis Road, Camarillo, CA 93012), beneficiary of the Rotary Golf Tournament proceeds. Please arrive on time, lunch will be served at 12:15 promptly and we will have an abbreviated meeting. Then, Steven Elson, PhD, Chief Executive Officer and Rotarian will be our host and presenter. Facility tours will follow, short ones for those that have to get back and longer for those that want a more complete circuit. Casa Pacifica meets kids and families at the most challenging times of their lives while helping them overcome some of the most difficult circumstances—abuse, neglect, emotional and behavioral issues and family crises. Restoring hope, finding joy in daily living, improving families’ chances at making a better life and finding a place in the community where they can be successful. |

California's Marijuana Law and Ventura County

For adults over the age of 21 in California, it is now legal to use, possess and share cannabis, as well as grow it at home. They can carry up to one ounce of flowers or eight grams of concentrate without fear of arrest. Many restrictions on purchase and use still apply. Even if marijuana is legal in California, marijuana remains a “Schedule 1” drug under the federal Controlled Substances Act; (drugs that have “no currently accepted medical use”). Attorney Panda Kroll’s presentation will focus on how California’s marijuana law impacts Ventura County employers and employees, as well as proposed “Bud and Breakfasts.” |

Camarillo Rotary presents the 47th Annual Viva La Comida community fundraiser, featuring delicious enchiladas, margaritas, beer and wine, plus strolling Mariachis and Magicians, and a pinata-breaking ceremony for kids. Dine-in, take-out and drive-through service available. Proceeds benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Camarillo and other local charities through the Camarillo Rotary Foundation. Tickets are available from any Camarillo Rotary member or at the door on Jan. 30. |

The Active Shooter presentation by Sergeant Scott Duffner of the Thousand Oaks Police Department’s Intelligence Led Policing Unit will give us information on how to survive an Active Shooter incident and help make us aware of what the reaction will be from first responders. The presentation consists of three videos and PowerPoint slides with extremely helpful information (we hope we never need). |

Her research addresses issues of credibility and transparency in news media. Kirstie is an assistant professor of communication at California Lutheran University and teaches courses in media writing and editing and serves as the faculty adviser to Cal Lutheran’s student newspaper, The Echo. |

In later years, Pancho was the owner of the Happy Bottom Riding Club, a bar and restaurant in the Mojave Desert catering to the test pilots and aviators who worked nearby.
