In 1976, a group of like-minded men (women were not invited into membership until 1989) came together with the goal of making a difference in their local and international communities. Under the leadership of Charter President Bob Ash and with the support of members of the Rotary Club of Peterborough, the group began the process of planning a new club.
On November 26, 1976, the Rotary Club of BridgenorthEnnismoreLakefield (BEL) was chartered at the Pines Pavilion in Bridgenorth, with 22 members, guests and local dignitaries present. The legacy of service and fellowship began.
The club also made its mark locally and internationally. In addition to projects including adopt a family, Rotary Park, the Bridgenorth Rotary Trail and the eco shed at Chemong School, the club was one of the lead clubs in the district in our work in the Dominican Republic, built the Rotary School of Cambodia and has refurbished and put in water systems in Nepal.
In the words of Charter President Bob, “Rotary is about “doing good while having fun”. BEL Rotary is an amazing “family” that works together and plays together.
