Rotary Club of Kenora Announces its Centennial Project!

The Rotary Club of Kenora will celebrate its 100th Anniversary, February 20, 2020. In celebration of their service to the City of Kenora and the world, plans are underway for a full year of special events, and displays to recognize the incredible achievement of keeping a club active through many generations. This required the dedication of hundreds and hundreds of men and women Rotarians who generously contributed their time and talent to make our city and the world a better place to live.

After more than a year of research, the Rotary Club has chosen a BIG project in partnership with the City of Kenora as part of this celebration. The construction of a fully accessible water spray park at Norman Park is expected to be completed by July 2019. It is hoped that the residents of Kenora will support fundraising efforts, and in addition to these, applications for grants and in-kind donations will round out the effort.

The park, being fully accessible, will allow children of all ability levels access to fun through water play. Hoops, towers, and features yet to be determined will make this park a meeting place for families, and offer a new form of outdoor exercise for children. The water is filtered and automatic timed shut-offs prevent the water from running when the park is not being used. There are buttons to push to turn the water on, which can be controlled by the children. Tourists and residents alike will have full access to the park.

Once the park is completed, it will be turned over to the city who will own and operate it. Spray parks/splash pads are popping up all across the country, and are hugely popular. The nearest one to Kenora is situated on the riverfront in Emo, Ontario.

We would like to thank the residents of Kenora for all their support over the past years, and look forward to partnering with the city in the construction of this wonderful new endeavour.

We’re going to make a BIG SPLASH!!
