10. New Business:
a. Bill Bannock Fishing Derby. Don McKay had an inquiry as to whether we are interested in letting Kinsmen run the Bill Bannock Fishing Derby. Rick Hubbs noted that we don’t own the name (Doug confirmed that we don’t hold the domain name as protected anymore), but did have permission from Murray Harvey at the time to use the name for our Derby. The Club agreed that if Kinsmen wishes to host a fishing derby, it would be great to go ahead – is there a way to say yes they can use this name but make very clear it is now “operated by the Kinsmen Club of The Pas”. The name is well-known and will be good for advertising and a great event for the community. Monica asked whether it would be appropriate to approach the Harvey family to seek permission or advise them the derby may be back. Peter mentioned maybe asking Leslie Harvey about using the logo, but Don Dunnigan did say that the snowshoe race and fish derby were allowed to use the name, and Murray would have been happy to know the Derby may be back. John mentioned that it’s all for the community, so if Kinsmen wants to do the work and any Rotarians wish to help, it is good to go ahead. Don McKay will let the inquirer know of this discussion and that they can use any tents/equipment we have which may be useful (our Club can discuss whether there would be a charge for this or donated for the event). It was agreed that notifying the Harvey family would be a respectful step if this is to go ahead.
b. Peter Imhof Visit. Don McKay met with Peter while he was here to experience the OCN Pow Wow. Peter was associated with the pallet project and while he was visiting The Pas/OCN, it was nice to have an in-person visit.
c. Rotary/Rotarel Budget. Doug had sent the Rotarel (and CTBO) budget via email – any questions can be directed to Doug. Doug reported that funding is good, no concerns. CTBO so far should cover all of the usual items we fund. Last year we budgeted $1,000 to the Foundation, and we can do that again, or make any changes through the usual process. $4000 to Kelsey Swim Program, $4000 is budgeted for Opasquia but no request yet for this year. Critical Fund is just under $20K, and brought in $999 through electronic donations – this is all done externally and transferred in as required, so it is a smooth financial process. We did make an exception for an adult (special consideration) from this Fund this year, although typically it is used for sick children. Funds are healthy to be able to pay our regular bills – and the Fish Fry proceeds should be a good fund-raiser. The Club account is in good standing, we did add additional earmarked funds for social events. Doug was thanked for his ongoing work as Treasurer.

11. Unfinished Business:
a. Patronage booklet. Don Dunnigan outlined again the idea for another fundraiser for sales prior to Christmas – depending on how long the current CTBO continues as well – coupons would expire in calendar 2025. Rotarians are welcome to join a small committee (Don D., Kent, Monica, Keith)
b. Mural dedication date to be determined. This was not discussed further at this meeting.
c. Northern View Lodge Defibrillator purchase – This item will be removed from our agenda, as Gerry confirmed the Lodge is in the process of making the purchase.
d. Fish Fry 2024 – Saturday, September 21st The jobs list was reviewed, and all jobs are covered. Don McKay asked that those attending help out where they see assistance may be needed. Monica advised that the local businesses have been extremely generous again with prize donations, and there will be a multitude of prizes available, including 4 Grand Prizes. Monica also advised that she will be away on the 21st, and Kristi and Don D. agreed to assist with gathering (or making arrangements) any additional prizes and for setting them out on the Friday/Saturday. Monica will have the tickets/ticket price sheets and prizes/prize sheets organized and will send the information to Kristi and Don.
e. UCN Linkages reception is on Tuesday, October 8th from 4 pm to 8 pm. We have a number of volunteers – Don McKay, Margaret, Don Dunnigan, Doug, Monica, Connie, Peter, Kent, Blair.
f. Meals on Wheels in November - Please ensure Monica has a copy of your records check and availability for November to assist with Meals on Wheels.
12. Club Banners: Don provided a sample for consideration, and this will be discussed further at a later meeting.
13. Exchange Student and RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award) : Julia/Linda will advise when additional information is available for the Exchange Student. The RYLA presentations will be on September 17.
