Call to Order: CTBO – Round 6 Draw 21 is today.

2. Guests: Dawn and Kent Madden (accepting their winnings for the consolation prize next week, and Dawn assisting with the CTBO)

5. Approval of Minutes : Sept 24th minutes approved.

8. Committee Reports:
a. Catch The Big One – The game is continuing, as the 10 of diamonds was drawn today (Ida Moore won $684 with #17). The
current winning “pot” is now worth over $28,000. 9. Board of Directors Report:
b. The Wescana is finding the current lunch meeting agreement we have is not profitable. The Board will be meeting with Alan
Gibb on Oct 8th to discuss options and the cost of the lunch, and will report back.
c. There was discussion awhile ago about putting a Shelter Box in the 2025 trade show for the Tri-Community. Rick had
indicated there may be smaller display versions available rather than the full Shelter Box, and Don McKay is checking into
the options for the smaller model of the Shelter Box. He will report back once he has the information.
d. There had previously been discussion about a complaint CJAR received saying one of our prerecorded messages was
inaccurate. The group decided that no action was necessary as the person must have heard the message incorrectly. This had
to do with Meals on Wheels in Flin Flon, but our Club is only involved with delivery in The Pas. Rotary Club of The Pas

e. A discussion of the submission of Paul Harris awards and the awarding of those that are approved will be held prior to our
November “social” event.
f. The Board was asked if they club might be interested in clearing tables at MMF Sunday bingos,
and we have declined this opportunity.
g. Rotary Dinner (end of November). Paul Harris awards could be awarded then. This will be on the agenda within the next
couple of meetings so that we can determine date, location, format (“talent show”, etc.), Paul Harris recipients, etc.
10. New Business :
a. New “O’Toole” Mural: Thank you to Robin and Blair for securing the supports on the new mural – they did this in the terrible
weather on Monday, and the mural is safely secured now!
b. Town Planter Damage: Robin also reported that someone ran into the large planter and this will need to be repaired –
hopefully someone with a connection with Lakeshore or somewhere we can access sod to fix this. In addition, the planter was
spray painted, so graffiti remover is also needed. Kent mentioned that Doug Goldstrand may have some of this product, and
Doug Long indicated that the Town will have some of this available. Kristi indicated the Town did just recently clean up
graffiti on the new murals by the walking path.
c. Half-mast Flag: Blair notified the Club that the flag is half-mast for Mardene Premachuk.
11. Unfinished Business :
a. Patronage booklet – The Committee to look into this will begin more specific work on this initiative soon.
b. Mural dedication date to be determined – we had earlier discussed early October, but that will not occur. The Club determined
October 15, 2024 will be the date, and we will need to confirm a time (after our meeting or early evening to accommodate
working schedules). We also need to determine whether the O’Toole family will be involved (Monica will contact once the
date/time is confirmed), and she will also contact the Opasquia Times to be in attendance. c. Fish Fry 2024 – Pictures have
been posted in both the Rotary Facebook and Club Runner Platform of both the Raffle donors/winners and the event itself.
Doug reported that all is well with the financials for the Fish Fry, although there are still a few details to confirm the accurate
final amounts.
d. UCN Linkages reception is on Tuesday, October 8th from 4 pm to 8 pm. We have 10 volunteers from Rotary, and the UCN
Coordinator of the event was fine with this (Connie Chartrand (may not be available), Monica Cook, Don Dunnigan, Doug
Long, Don McKay, Don Murphy, Linda Northcott, Blair Patience, Margaret Ross, Kent Whaley). We have also been given
the go ahead to sell Catch The Big One tickets at the event. Doug pointed out that we may be asked to help serve dinner as
well as work at the bar. Volunteers need to be at UCN at 4 PM and will be given instruction as to the work needed.
e. Meals on Wheels in November - Please provide Monica with a copy of your Vulnerable Persons Record Check if you have
not already done so. The schedule is filled now (with Linda offering to take delivery November 19 and 26). If you are
available and want to pair up with another Rotarian so there are two for deliveries each week, that would be appreciated. It is
nice to have two people doing the deliveries when possible.
12. Club Banners: Don 3 will be in Winnipeg this week to speak further to the company he is working with on this project, and will
report at the next meeting. Peter wondered what the value is of these banners – as he does not feel they are necessary for the
folks who are selling tickets for the CTBO draws. Further discussion took place, and it was agreed that although we may not
require them for taking around for CTBO sellers, they are valuable for other activities such as the Trade Show, the event we are
involved with at UCN, the Fish Fry, Bill McDonald tournament, etc., and any other activity we sponsor or are involved with.
Rick pointed out that they are valuable for any opportunity for us to share our Rotary mission with others, as there is still some
older information out there – the banners can assist in raising awareness and for membership drives, etc. It is the cost of doing
business, and is worth the cost to share current information about all that Rotary does, and these can be utilized for membership
drives as well.
13. Exchange Student and RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award): There are no updates in relation to RYLA, but Rick did
mention that the exchange student will need winter clothes, and Linda confirmed that we do have winter attire for him. He is
working on his English, but the “Google Translate” is how the communication is currently being done.
14. Installation of New Members:
15. Club 100th Anniversary (2029) PERMANENT AGENDA ITEM: Kent suggested that we might consider a project which
involves improvements to the water front area.

As time went on, it began to take on a political meaning, as in a politician who’s actions are controlled by someone else: “The governor used to be a stand-up guy, but now he’s just a quokerwodger for corporate interests.”
