Call to Order:
1. Land Acknowledgement
2. Guests : None.
3. Visiting Rotarians: None.
4. Birthdays and Anniversaries : Nov 5th – Nov. 12th None
5. Approval of Minutes : October 29 meeting minutes were approved.
6. Presentations : Rob White presented on upcoming improvements to the flooring at
the Roy H. Johnston Arena, and shared with the Club that he will be seeking contributions
from community clubs and businesses. As the new owners of the Blizzard Hockey Club, they
want to give the community and visitors something to be proud of in the arena where the
Blizzard now call home. They are planning for 120 seat bleachers in the lobby – a warmer
area for those who prefer, and there will be the option of advertising in the new flooring as
well, update/renovate the washrooms and improve wheelchair accessibility. Rob will be
back to the Club when there are more details and a more concrete budget available – the
total cost is anticipated to be $250K - $300K. Rob will do much of the work himself rather
than contracting it out as well, which will save on some of the costs.
7. Correspondence : None.
8. Committee Reports:
a. Catch The Big One – the winner today was Colleen Reader, who won $877 as the
consolation prize with the 2 of Spades. The Ace of Spades is still hiding, so the game
continues, and the pot is at $33,908.
9. Board of Directors Report: None.
10. New Business :
a. Tri Community Foundation – Kent W. shared additional information about
the Community Foundation and requested our Club to consider a contribution again this
year. Kent answered questions from Rotarians, and there will be further information on the
website for all of the up to date contributions and related information. Kent also reminded
the Club that Endow Manitoba Giving Challenge is from November 12 to 17, 2024, so it
would be great if any contribution can be made during that time period.
b. Remembrance Day Wreath. Doug Long will arrange for the purchase of the
wreath and will attend to lay the wreath on behalf of the Club for Remembrance Day.
11. Unfinished Business :
a. Future meetings – The Club decided that we would continue to have our
meetings at the Wescana. This provides continued storage for Rotary belongings as well.
b. Movember – Members who wish to participate and to contribute are
welcome to do so.
c. Grant Certification seminars – Don McKay and Monica Cook will attend one of
the virtual sessions for the Grant Certification process.

d. Shelter Box: Don McKay will provide an update once one is available. If any
Rotarian knows of a source to have the models printed, we may move ahead with that next
step.
e. Fish Fry 2024 – The final tally for the 2024 fish fry will be shared once it is
available.
f. Meals on Wheels in November – Ken Kelly shared the schedule for the coming
week, and reminded Members that it is nice if we can double up to share the delivery work
each week.
12. Club Banners: Don McKay will share additional information at a future meeting.
Doug mentioned that the District Governor may have banners which may be coming to each
Club. He will confirm about the banners when the information is available.
13. Exchange Student and RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award) : Rick reported on
the Exchange Student group from our District who travelled to Churchill. They stayed at Rick
and Fran’s place the night before leaving, went to Thompson and on the train to Churchill.
Rick has been seeing the activities on the available cameras. The students are having a great
experience, and he will share photos when they are available.
14. Installation of New Members: None.
15. Club 100th Anniversary (2029) PERMANENT AGENDA ITEM:
Water front improvement project? Riverwalk history plaques.

Word of the Day – The last word meant to revel in another’s misfortune so a more positive
word would be in order today.
Comity – mutual courtesy or respect. An excellent example of a true Rotarian value.
18. Four-Way Test: Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
