6. Presentations :
a. Elma & James Dean accepted a cheque from The Rotary Club of The Pas to support free entry for youth ages 9 to 17 years old into the Northern Manitoba Juried Art Show. Elma and James provided additional information about the show which will be held at UCN on March 21-23.
b. Meeting Video – What is Rotary? (April 9th )
7. Correspondence:
a. Russell Thorne - Get Better Program – Information has been forwarded to Members for their review and involvement if they wish to do so.
b. JoAnne Black – Shelter Box, Live timed presentation will take place at our meeting of April 2nd at 12:10 pm.
8. Committee Reports:
a. CTBO:Anna Hostasek was the winner today – of $617 for the consolation prize. The game continues, and the next draw will be March 19. Don D. mentioned that sales were down a little this week, and we need members to step up and do as much selling as they are able, and to remind people of the value of their ticket sales for various Rotary projects. Members volunteered to be at the various grocery store locations for the next week to sell tickets for the March 19 CTBO draw.
9. Board of Directors Report:
a. Blizzard request for sponsorship/donation: $1,500 for a half window on their team bus. There was much discussion about this issue, and the Club decided not to vote on whether a donation will be made, as this is for a privately owned enterprise, which is not within the values of Rotary. This was not to say that the Club, or individuals within the Club, may not support the Blizzard in other ways (eg. Ticket sales, Seats with Rotary’s name included, etc.), as we recognize the importance of the team to The Pas/OCN and the north. The season is coming towards the end for this year, and other ideas will be discussed at a later date. Val B. suggested that we check the By-Laws to determine whether there is anything about supporting private businesses. The Club discussed that as a charity, our role is to support other charities (groups or individuals) and to give back to the community.
10. New Business:
a. None.
11. Unfinished Business:
a. Estevan 100th birthday celebration – Monica Cook has confirmed that she will attend this celebration to be held in Estevan on April 19, 2024, and has advised the Estevan Club. She will cover the costs personally and does not require Club sponsorship.
b. Meals on Wheels – Jace Lloyd has advised that the hospital would like a list of those who will be participating in delivery of Meals on Wheels. A copy of your Vulnerable Persons Record Check should be given to Monica or Don so it may be passed along to the hospital. Members are advised to keep their original of their Record Check. We need to ensure we have enough volunteers to assist with Meals on Wheels for May and for November. Discussion ensued, and it was determined that our Club would have enough volunteers to assist.
13. Exchange Student and RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award): No report.
14. Installation of New Members: None.
