.Ed Demchynski – We thanked Ed for all of his and his crew’s work in putting together the pyro-musical fireworks show, and he was presented with a cheque for $18,000 which will cover the cost of the fireworks.  The crew puts in about 150 hours of volunteer time to put this show on, and we expressed appreciation for the dedication and willingness to put the time in to be able to have such a great show to recognize Canada Day.  There was some discussion about whether there should be a “monetizing” of this event, whether that means food vendors or “passing the hat” in future years, but at this time it was agreed it is good to have this as a free event for access to all.  This may be re-visited in future years – starting the event earlier and offering food, activities, etc. before the fireworks.  There was also a discussion of the location and whether the show should be moved to the airport or down by the river again, but Ed indicated the ag grounds is really the perfect location.  Gary reminded of the first time Ed arranged fireworks and music  on a raft at Clearwater and how that ended with a real “bang” when the raft lit on fire.  Ed shared his memory of putting together that first show for about $2200 and how much he has learned about how to run a pyro-musical since that time.

6.  Presentations : Peter Tonge District 5550 Governor – Extending your Reach.  Peter shared his presentation (attached) and his vision for his year as District              Governor.

7. Correspondence : None.

                          a. Catch the Big One (CTBO) is on hold until Sept – the next draw will be on September 11, 2024.  We will start selling tickets two weeks prior to                        that date. Don D. will arrange for ticket printing, and will have the email line taken off of the tickets, as this is not required.

                          a. Rotary Club of The Pas Birthday – It is confirmed that the date of the first meeting was January 15^th, 1929.

                          b. Financial Assistance Request from Sam Waller Museum via Robin Reader.  The Board has approved the amount of $2 500.00 to purchase new                                 chairs for the museum.

                                                That the Rotary Club of The Pas provide $2,500 for the request from the Sam Waller Museum to purchase new chairs for the Rotary                                                    Room.  CARRIED.

                          a. Bill McDonald Memorial Basketball Tournament.  Don Murphy reported that originally the Bill McDonald Tournament was not going to be held                 this year because the provincials are in The Pas.  However, Blair P. indicated that it is only the boys’ provincials being held here, so Andrew Forward                        and Wendy Cull have confirmed that they would still want to run the Bill McDonald Tournament this fall.  The tournament will be held around the                    second week of December.  There will be DMC funds for the Tournament, so there should not be a significant additional cost.

                          b. Fish Fry – The Club agreed that we will run the Fish Fry again this fall.  The date will be September 21 (unless this conflicts with other activities in                           The Pas – we will check with the other clubs).  Peter will check with the Legion to hold the hall, and will also check with the “music man”.

                          c. Summer meetings – We will continue to meet weekly on Tuesdays throughout the summer.

                          d.  Rotary Computer.  There was discussion about what to do with the computer donated to Rotary from Ian Mitchell, and it was decided we woujld                                    keep the computer and have it available for use by the Rotary exchange student arriving in the fall.

                          a. Canada Day  - The Club agreed that we will assist on an annual basis to gather contributions for the pyro-musical fireworks display which Ed                               Demchynski organizes.  We will begin earlier in the year to request contributions and will request other clubs to work together with us for this purpose.  Don McKay noted a couple of things for next year – letting people know that they need to turn their headlights off, and the potential to hand out something about the show which indicates all of the sponsors.  Don will mention all of the sponsors again on the radio, and will also add the Ag Society.  Monica has prepared an ad for the newspaper and there are posts on our Facebook page as well.  Monica asked whether we also want to do an article about the event and Rotary’s involvement.  Kent and others mentioned an article would not be necessary  – there will also be acknowledgement and reports from the Canada Day Committee.

                          b. Mural – Doug L. reported that John Ellenberger should be here next weekend to put the new mural up.  It is a different process this time to ensure                                that the mural does not fade and will last much longer.  A drip cap will also be added for further protection.

                          c. Social Event

                                   i. The Bocce Ball and BBQ event will be on Saturday, July 13^th at the Clearwater Lake Hall, Bocce Ball will begin at 3, Berschied Meats will provide                                     the BBQ and the meal will be at 6 PM.

                                    ii.  Don McKay reported that some of the Paul Harris awards are in, and the others are expected by the date of the BBQ.  Monica shared that                                               Darrell and Darlene Dushanek are confirmed to attend, Wilf Lamontagne will attend and needs a ride to the Clearwater Hall and back                                                from town, Marcia is away at that time, but Davide will attend.  Don confirmed that Heather and Umberto will attend, but that their                                                   awards will be presented at a later date when nominator Keith Young can be present.

                                                Kent mentioned Ed Demchynski as a potential future recipient.

                          d. MBCI Grad Follow up – Gary reported that things couldn’t have gone better – there were 6 people helping who arrived at the hall around 2:30 AM                          and served breakfast at 3 AM.  The students and adult chaperones who enjoyed breakfast were very appreciative.

                          e. Patronage booklet – we will need to discuss this in more detail soon if we are doing a booklet in the Fall/Winter for use in 2025.  Don Dunnigan                                 has spoken to the new print shop owner (Devon Burrell) and he confirmed that he has the equipment to be able to do the perforated booklets.                          We need someone to design the booklet, and Kent will check with Deborah Howell to find out who did the posters for Canada Day.

12. Club Banners:   This project will move forward with including relevant photos and the date our Club started here (January 15, 1929).

                  We still need a host family for August for the Rotary exchange student coming here – please share far and wide!
