Sargent At Arms:  Blair Patience Call To Order:
  1. Guests: Heather Perchaluk.  Heather was not available today, so will attend the Rotary Club of The Pas meeting next Tuesday, August 15.
  2. Visitors:  Shauna Munro (Michael O’Rourke’s daughters, and Felix Naepels (2005-06 Rotary Exchange Student).
Felixe spoke about his experience as a Rotary Exchange student and how much he appreciated the opportunity.  He shared with the Club that it changed his life for the better – he has wonderful memories, learned English and will return at every opportunity.  He was young and not sure of what he wanted to do with his life at the time he was in The Pas, but the travels and meeting the people here truly changed his life and he has done very well.  The opportunity to stay with the Coulsons, Dunnigans and the O’Rourke’s was wonderful.  He is now working with the IT community and travels for both work and personal trips – in part because of what he learned here during his exchange year.  He expressed his appreciation and thanked the families and the Club for the opportunity.
  1. Make-Ups:  None.
  2. Birthdays and Anniversaries:  Happy Birthday in August to:  Doug Long, Don Murphy, Keith Young.  Happy Anniversary to Robin and Sandy, Don and Vera, Dion and Amanda Bird, Jordan and Crystal.
  3. Correspondence:
    1. Kent read a lovely thank you note from Lee Manych and family for the dedication of the Rotary bench in memory of Don Manych.
    2. Monica noted that a message had been received from Gord and Deb Lemaistre who would like to meet with our Club (via Zoom) to share their appreciation for the support from The Rotary Club of The Pas for the Ripple Effect Program.  We will provide the option that this can be done at the August 22 meeting, or the meeting in the second week in September.  Doug Long has a Rotary laptop that can be used to set up the Zoom meeting, and Linda noted that there is a screen available in the regular meeting space.  Monica will check back with the Lemaistres to determine the best date for this communication.
  4. Committee Reports:
    1. Catch The Big One:  Don Dunnigan.  Don reminded the Club that we will begin the draw again September long weekend 2023.  Tickets will be available as of August 22, 2023.  The draw will start at $5,000 and posters will be ready to go.  It seems that Justin will be taking over Connie’s store, so hopefully the relationship and the work done with/for Rotary can continue.
  5. New Business:
    1. John O’Toole Mural.  Robin advised the Club that he and Don D. and others would be assisting to remove trees that are in the way of the mural which will be replaced.  Robin also mentioned that the post may also need to be fixed and will let the Club know if any further work/funds are required.  Kent has been in touch with Jim Scott who will be submitting the Destination Marketing Committee application to assist with the funding needed for the updated mural.  Peter Totte indicated it will be important to know the status of the mural, when it will be here to be updated and when the final payment will be issued (once the mural project is complete).  Kent will follow up again with Jim in order to finalize this project.
    2. Baseball Diamond.  Kent mentioned that the lighting for the baseball diamonds is still in the works.  Michael mentioned that Trev’s Electric is working on this, and shared the details as to how this may be completed based on how similar work was done for light posts at UCN.
    3. Rotary Records.  Monica mentioned that Patty Klimchuk had spoken to her about Rotary historical records which are in the ReMax offices.
We will want to determine what exactly is there and to go through the documentation for any information we want to use for the Centennial, and then to determine where to move these records (eg. museum, library, Rotary trailer, etc.).  Monica will follow up with the Klimchuks.
  1. Club Banners:  Tim.  Tim is away today, so we will await a report at the next meeting as to the status of the banners.
  2. Exchange Student and RYLA:  Linda Northcott/Julia McKay.   Linda informed the Club that unfortunately our exchange student has fallen ill and so will not be able to come to The Pas for this year.
Linda also advised that she will take one of the RYLA attendees
(Namirembe) to the camp, but we need a volunteer to pick her pick up at the Onanole camp on Saturday, August 12, unless Claudia Hemauer (the other RYLA student) and her family can bring her back to The Pas.  Mileage will be paid if a Rotary member is able to attend (Rick pointed out that the mileage is .45/km unless the person who agrees to pick Namirembe up does so without claiming mileage).  Cully volunteered if there was not another arrangement in place.
