Don Murphy and Keith Young have upcoming birthdays, happy birthday to them! Robin and Sandy Reader are celebrating 48 years of marital bliss, congratulations to them! We have no makeups and no visiting Rotarians. Our guests this week are Al McLauchlan, Heather Perchaluk, Shirley Dickens, Lois McMurchy, and Carol Totte.
There is no new correspondence.
CTBO - Don is away. Kent advised that tickets will be available to sell two weeks prior to the September 5th draw date. Peter has booked several dates at the Grub Box through to October. We need sellers.
After today’s meeting, at Sunset Park, benches will be dedicated to passed members Keith McMurchy and Mike Dickens.
Kent gave a history on the benches around the walking path. We have an agreement with the town whereas we reserve “plaquing rights” on the benches as they are replaced.
Tim is waiting on photos for the banners.
RYLA – Two kids attended the junior camp, and two were at the senior camp. Julia will arrange for the kids to make presentations at upcoming September meetings.
Al McLauchlan and Heather Perchaluk gave us a presentation on the progress of the Opasquia trails project.
Upcoming projects are:
- Putting a boardwalk bridge across the swampy area on the boreal walking trail, approximate cost of 69,ooo. The completion time for this is next summer.
- Putting limestone down on the boreal walking trail. This would make the trail accessible for all, approximate cost is $200,000.
- A viewing platform at the end of the boreal walking trail.
Kent questioned if our donation will be held until all dollars have been accrued. Al advised It will go into the project account, but will double in value when applying for grants.
There is an agreement with the RM for garbage pick- up. The only real garbage on the trail now are Twisted Tea cans. Other than garbage pick- up, Opasquia Trails is looking after the maintenance.
There will be a strategy planning session in October to make plans going forward.
To be able to provide a quote, Maple Leaf Construction requires a diagram of the walking path extension.
Doug Is looking for volunteers to put the blue and yellow tent up at the Ag Grounds on Friday at 10:30. Kent and Don volunteered. Doug will send an email out.
Val gave a report on the rodeo this upcoming weekend. There are lots of new attractions this year- trick riders, pony rides and petting zoo, Tow- a- tow truck competition, rib cook off, as well as live entertainment and a beer garden!! And a free pancake breakfast on Sunday morning…check out the rodeo on August 18, 19 and 20!!
50/50 Doug was drawn but sadly did not find the ace but he does get to be Sgt at Arms next week
