8. Committee Reports: a. Catch the Big One. Today’s draw was made by last week’s winner Kent Cook – Kent donated his winnings ($570) back to our Club. The winner today was Brian Totte ($747.00). The Ace of Spades is still hiding, so we’re on for another week! Doug Long will be away April 16, so we need a volunteer to do his ticket pick-up and distribution for this date. Don McKay said he could do this, and Doug will provide him with the list. Ticket sales were a little higher this week – let’s keep it up! Doug mentioned that Don Dunnigan was the highest seller for this past week. Monica will check again with the Otineka Mall whether we can sell tickets there – we’ll need Rotary members to sign-up to sell at OCN as well once we are approved for space there. Wescana Rendezvous Room Further discussion took place in relation to the printer/copier which is used by PaperWorks Plus to print our Catch The Big One tickets. There would be a monthly cost (and Rick Hubbs mentioned that Connie is trying to have these costs reduced). Michael shared that he has a printer which produces for minimal cost, but it is not a commercial grade printer. Connie may still want to use the printer once in awhile as well. We will want to be sure that she can provide training for a number of Rotary members if we do take over her printer. After further discussion, it was agreed that we are in favor of keeping Connie’s printer – Don McKay will discuss this with Connie. Gerry will check on the cost of a service contract with Wilsons as he thinks he may be able to have the cost lowered or covered – we should check with Gene’s as well to see what the local provider would be able to do. We will need to be sure we know the details about the current service contract and any costs involved. We will also need to determine where the printer will be housed. The room at the museum was discussed as one potential option, and if this is where it is to be, Don McKay will have a discussion with Connie because this means it may not be available outside of regular business hours. Motion: Moved: Rick Hubbs Seconded: Don Murphy That The Rotary Club of The Pas spend up to $4,500 to purchase the printer from PaperWorks Plus. Carried.
9. Board of Directors Report: None.
10. New Business : a. May 10 & 11 Rotary Conference Club Banners with stand – we will need to send our banner/stand with Rick (if we can find it). As Rick is the only member going this year, he will take any banner we can find. Also, a
“gift” is requested from each Club for an auction to raise funds at the Conference. Rick asks that everyone bring a bottle of whiskey to the May 7 meeting, and he will package this up as an auction prize and take it to
the Rotary Conference.
b. May 10 & 11 Rotary Conference Club event/fund raiser display. We need to find out if we have banners somewhere which can be used. It was suggested that Jim Scott may have them – Don McKay will check with
Jim to see if he knows where the Club banners are, and will let the Club know next week.
c. Discussion related to Rotary member retirement.
d. Rotary branded polo shirts & hockey jerseys, hats, etc. Don McKay noted that we need to purchase items before PaperWorks is closed – there are some jerseys available from the Club. If you want a polo shirt, you
will need to let Connie know by Friday this week – and let her know if you’d like to purchase any other items before they are no longer making these items locally.
e. Sonja has forwarded a request to donate to Shelter Box (for the Gaza area). We have agreed to send two Shelter Boxes for the current area of concern.
11. Unfinished Business: a. CTBO Rounds 2, 3, 4 & 5 winners’ list. Don McKay is finishing this up and it can be displayed when we are selling our tickets.
b. Patronage coupon book. Further discussion took place in relation to doing a coupon book as a fund-raiser in the future. We will discuss the issue at a later date to determine if this is something we feel is
worthwhile to do in the Tri-Community area.
c. July 2024 – June 2025 Budget items
12. Club Banners: We will discuss this further when Tim has completed a mock-up for new banners.
