Please check the roster for the next few weeks and advise John Campbell and David Ungar if you will be away that week. Absence forms will be at the attendance desk.
Our guest speaker, Adnan Mohsen, challenged the current “world order,” arguing that the 1648-based system of national sovereignty is failing to manage modern conflicts, displacement, and nuclear and environmental threats. He advocated for a stronger, law-based global governance model - a kind of “world federation” or strengthened United Nations - with real authority to prevent war and uphold human rights. He reflected on the human cost of conflict, the rise of populism, and the potential impact of more women in leadership, noting their empathy and focus on nurturing.

Meeting Information
Member Care & Club News
Rita is recovering well after hip surgery and had moved from ICU to a ward at the time of the meeting. Since then, she has returned home and plans to be at the meeting, along with her BBQ Angels, on Thursday.
Members are invited to join the club’s Messenger chat for informal connection. See Krystal, Jo or Vicki if you need help.
Birthdays and anniversaries acknowledged, including Philip’s two years in Rotary and Loraine’s 29 years! Happy birthday to Graham Jones and David Andrews.
Committees & Club Support
Volunteers are sought for committees, especially Public Image (social media, website, photos, stories) and club admin roles such as newsletter support. Other roles are available, so please reach out to Vicki if you have skills you can offer. We are looking to have every member on a committee to share the load.
Kokoda Challenge & Service
The Kokoda Challenge car parking roster is being finalised, with a vacancy in the early hours.
Special thanks were given to Richard for his outstanding work in organising recent service activities.
Friendship, Exchanges & Vocational Visit
Members heard details of a Rotary Friendship Exchange opportunity to South Africa.
Plans are underway for a vocational visit to a veterans’ farming wellbeing project at Currumbin Valley in late August.
Membership, Leadership & Youth
A highly experienced Rotarian is seeking to transfer into the club, with emphasis on quality, not quantity in membership. We also have another excellent candidate going through the membership process.
A new speaker expression-of-interest page is live on the website.
A call is out for someone with calligraphy or neat handwriting to help with certificates.
A leadership workshop is being developed, with members completing surveys to shape the program.
Historic documents from the Miami State High School Interact Club (from 1966) were shared, celebrating long-standing youth engagement with Rotary.

Judy McLennan is a Gold Coast-based community organiser who shifted from executive coaching to local climate action eight years ago - convening groups, running events, and connecting people across the Gold Coast’s climate and clean energy community.
She founded Electrify Gold Coast, a volunteer community group helping Gold Coast households whether in stand-alone homes or apartment buildings transition to cleaner, all-electric living.
Founded in 2025, Electrify Gold Coast is part of Rewiring Australia’s nationwide Electric Communities network. It is now an incorporated association, giving it greater capacity to support Gold Coast households especially those in strata apartment buildings, which make up a major part of the city and often miss out on clean energy opportunities available to stand-alone homes.
On Thursday, Judy will explain what electrification means and how it can benefit households.
