Board Wrap-Up & Finances
The final board meeting for the Rotary year successfully held online despite tech hiccups. Around $60,000 was raised over the year, with a good balance between spending and retaining funds.
Membership Updates
Bernie Trafford has resigned from Rotary to prioritise family. We thank him for his Rotary service and hope to stay in touch. Annette and Kenneth Jensen are now based in Singapore; Annette will transfer clubs, while Kenneth will retain membership and continue as speaker coordinator remotely. The club finishes the year with around 95% member retention, which is considered very strong.
Club Achievements
19 of 22 annual goals were achieved in My Rotary. The club will receive a Rotary International Club Excellence Citation for the year’s work. The Duck Race project has been lodged in Rotary’s project database to showcase the event and invite collaboration from other clubs.
Grants & Major Projects
A new grant application being prepared to Gold Coast Airport to support the mobility scooter program, particularly insurance and maintenance costs (disability focus). Ongoing support for Malaria vaccine research – Phase 1 trials underway in Melbourne; Phase 2 planned for Tanzania.
Funding Distribution
- $1,000 approved for the Malaria project.
- Additional contribution made to The Rotary Foundation / End Polio Now.
- $600 allocated to a road safety education program with Miami High.
- $1,000 donation approved for Walk With Us.
Model United Nations (MUNA)
23 high schools participated at Tweed Heads Civic Centre. The winning team from Lindisfarne High will represent the district at Nationals in Canberra. Big thanks to our members, Rob Haines and Ross Smith for their work in judging the competition.
Community Engagement & Recognition
The Multicultural Social Network dinner at Arundel recognised Andy for his community service and Rotary involvement, which was presented by Dr Hussein Baba.
International Service – East Timor
The long-term work in East Timor continues, with around 20 containers of education and health resources sent over the years. Another container is planned for July, with assistance from members to help load. Bren told us about a new chapel that will be opened.
Rosters, Barbecues & Volunteer Support
Our recent sausage sizzle achieved a strong financial result of a record $3600 despite roster challenges. For Kokoda parking, rosters will be opened to family members and youth (e.g. YEP, Rotex/Interact contacts) to help fill shifts and ease pressure on regular volunteers.

New version of ClubRunner is now live. Logins stay the same – you will see the new interface next time you log in. Info on how to do that is below, but Vicki will be putting together a training document to help you navigate it.
Lucia News
Update from Lucy’s family in Argentina: Lucy’s father is home and recovering; specialist review will guide timing of her return but hopefully will be in the next couple of months.
Finally, club leaders and members were congratulated on a successful Rotary year with strong outcomes across service, fundraising, and fellowship.

and founder Nikki, outlined the work of Walk With Us, a Gold Coast charity supporting people who are homeless, disadvantaged, or in crisis. Starting from a Christmas lunch for around 160 people, the organisation now runs weekly Tuesday night three‑course dinners at the Burleigh Uniting Church, currently serving around 60+ guests and offering access to doctors, haircuts, laundry, showers, and council support.
