Rosies - Friends on the Street
The Outreach at Burleigh operates each Tuesday and Thursday from 7pm - 9pm at Burleigh Heads just outside the library at the side of the Bowls Club; Our vans head out with our volunteers and students from our local High Schools to engage with the patrons, some of whom are regular attendees and others who come and go as they need or are able to make their way to us.
Rosies aims to offer friendship and unconditional acceptance to those who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, or are experiencing social isolation or loneliness. Just as you would offer a cup of tea or coffee to a friend who was visiting your home, we do the same for our friends on the street.
We also, through community gifting/funding offer blankets, sleeping bags, beanies, socks, grocery and personal care items.
Many of the individuals that come to visit us on outreach have housing or jobs but are still having trouble making ends meet or simply lack a strong support system. At Rosies we welcome all of our friends with open arms and friendly smiles, you’d be amazed what a cuppa and a chat can do to change someone’s self-worth and build confidence.
