Heading west on the lakefront walking path you are led to the Lighthouse. Strolling the Lighthouse Commemorative Path and Rotary Lighthouse Park is beautiful reminder of the energy of a Laker. Like the Lighthouse, Lakers are enduring, resilient and strong, proud and filled with passion.
During the summer months our beautiful lady welcomes visitors with grace and during the quiet of winter she stands strong and proud through passing time for her community.
History of our Lighthouse
To commemorate the 100th birthday of Sylvan Lake, The Rotary Club of Sylvan Lake took on the challenge to rebuild the lighthouse from the ground up and in 2016 the project was complete.
The original lighthouse was in decline and after demolition, Trevor Sigfusson, President of SL Rotary at the time, took on the challenge to rebuild. Since then, our community has supported the Town of Sylvan Lake and Rotary, as they work together to continue to enhance Rotary Lighthouse Park.
Designed like Peggys Cove Lighthouse, over $240,000.00 was raised through various grants, donations and fundraisers and on Canada Day 2016 the Rotary Lighthouse Park was officially open for visitors.

The Memorial Stones Commemorative Fundraiser was initiated after lighthouse construction. During phase 1, stones were applied to the base of the lighthouse. As interest in the Memorial Stones Fundraising Project continued to grow, phase 2 was expanded to include the Lighthouse Path which is now flanked with lovely commemorations.
What is most interesting about the Memorial Stones is the diversity of the donors. Walking the Lighthouse Path, you will see stones honoring loved ones who have passed. You will also see stones chosen by people commemorating their business, their organizations and donor stones representing our families of today. Each stone is a moment in time...a heartwarming reminder of our past, our present and our future.
The next time you take a stroll on the Lakefront make sure you head west to Rotary Lighthouse Park. Take some time to appreciate the beauty and the history before you. Read the names of those who worked to build and maintain the dreams of a community. Follow the elite Lighthouse Path of community builders that continue to donate to ensure those dreams continue. Honor those who's memory we cherish.
This is the perfect time to visit. Standing beside her in the quiet, surrounded by commemorations of history and respect is very moving.
She is an hourglass of infinity for us all, inspired by a Rotarian.
There are many ways to make a mark on your community and a Memorial Stone is a great option. Rotary Club of Sylvan Lake is a fundraising group working on local and international projects to better our community and the world. Rotarians rely on community support of projects and events to see these goals to fruition. The Memorial Stones Fundraising Project is growing. Memorial Stones must be ordered in advance as they are prepared in batches and stones ordered now are set for spring installation. Orders include a personalized certificate which is framed and ready to wrap as a gift.
