Scott McDermott: Fitness Consultant/Gym Owner
Fitness Consultant

Scott has been a personal trainer for four years and has owned Sylvan Lake Body Fit Fitness Centre for four years.
As owner and operator of his own gym, Scott enjoys a personally satisfying and fulfilling career. He spends his days doing what he always wanted to do - helping motivate people to live in their best body. He is a personal trainer, nutritional consultant, public lecturer and author. He also writes a monthly fitness newsletter, which is emailed to hundreds of subscribers.
The minimal education requirements to own a fitness center include a certificate as a personal trainer. This may be achieved through AFLCA, NFPT or CanFitpro. A degree in physical education or kinesiology is also beneficial for the owner of a fitness center.
An individual who is considering owning and operating a fitness center must be people orientated and have the ability to deal effectively with all personality types. This individual must constantly demonstrate patience and a sincere desire to help others. Constant training is required to absorb, dissect and process all the raw data available in the fitness world.
The job offers flexible hours, a positive healthy environment and the knowledge that you are helping people become the best they can be.
Students who are considering the field of physical fitness with the specific goal of owning and operating a gym such as Body Fit Fitness Center are welcome to talk to Scott. He is also receptive to having a work experience student spend some time at the gym to gain first hand knowledge of the business.
