The Rotary Club of Sylvan Lake was chartered Apr. 6,1999 and is part of District 5360. Garnet Rambaut of the Red Deer East Rotary Club was appointed as the District Governor's representive to establish a club in Sylvan Lake.He along with Peggy Findley & Bonnie Ganske were the three existing Rotarians from Sylvan Lake and area residents, who wanted their home community to benefit from the opportunities provided through a local Rotary club. The Red Deer East club enthusiastically agreed to sponsor our new club and we enjoy a friendly, supportive and mutually beneficial relationship with those Rotarians.

Since then, just like Sylvan Lake and area, our club has grown and prospered. Membership is around 25 though we're always recruiting prospective Rotarians. We fundraise throughout the year with events that include a spring anniversary night banquet and silent auction, fall skate-a-thon, volunteering for the Red Deer International Air Show and charity casinos. Proceeds are used to support a growing variety of projects and initiatives.

Our mandate upon chartering was to support and promote positive youth activities. Our first projects included sponsoring teens to attend Rotary Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment and Rotary Youth Leadership Awards leadership camps. We've since increased that support to include two annual humanitarian awards at H.J. Cody School, a mentorship Web site for career-seeking young people and Rotary youth exchanges with other teens abroad.

Community involvement has also been vital. We've participated in 1913 Days events, Santa Claus parades, Benalto Stampedes and Family Day Winterfests and continue seeking ways to better participate and support Sylvan Lake and district activities.
