Today was the monthly business meeting. It was a great opportunity to hear updates from board members about upcoming events, opportunities, and initiatives.
Annette Eby (President): Highlighted results recent survey regarding what members would like to see in the coming year. They include
- Focused meetings that adhere to timelines and allow for fellowship opportunities
- Speakers sharing information about local initiatives and issues
- Board focus on engaging and connecting with new members
- Increased opportunities to engage in local service projects
Scott Robinson (Incoming President):
- 2 global grants completed
- Working with Ron Moisey and the Board to develop policies and job descriptions
- Welcomes speaker suggestions- 1 date left in each of September and October
Ron Moisey (Treasurer)
- Will share review of financial statements next month at AGM
- May need to consider adopting a new financial reporting system
Annette for Leigh Sands (Fundraising)
- Black Tie Bingo is progressing but needs club support
- Continues to look for additional ERS administrators for Rebel 50 50 games
Dean Williams (Member Engagement)
- Encouraged all to become involved in a committee or project
- Provide support to new members as they become involved with the club in an active role
Jennifer Whelan (Community Engagement)
- Learning more about available grants at the district level
- Will be attending Possibility Exchange, on Sept 3, event hosted by Community Foundation of Central Alberta that is focused on making connectionns between community agencies
- Looking for opportunities to support committees
Judith McIntyre (Communications)
- Continuing to update social media and ClubRunner channelsl of communication
- Engaging with committee leaders to support celebrating activities, and events
- Celebrate all that we do for the community
- September focus: Updating ClubRunner profiles (is your picture current?) and Community Webpage
Meeting UpdatePresident Annette Eby hosted the meeting with Sarge Thelma Maris keeping all in line. Fines of $1 were levied for missing nametags and neglecting to take a summer vacation or break. The contribution cans rang loudly today!
The role of the Rotary Bell was shared by Annette. The bell is visible at all meetings and represents order, punctuality and mutual respect. It is a call for unity and commitment to Rotary.
The 4 Way test was led by Thelma Maris.
On the 90th anniversary of the birth of the highly successful Jean Beliveau, Thelma shared a story about the importance of “Keeping Your Stick On the Ice” and being persistent in achieving personal goals.
August birthdays were properly serenaded by those in attendance. Congratulation to those celebrating Rotary Anniversaries this month: Tony Judd (1 year), Leigh Sands (4 years), and Diane McDonnell (20 years)

Mayor Cindy Jefferies shared her story with members. Cindy came to Red Deer in 1978 and attended LTHS where she met her future husband, Dan. While still in high school they created a profitable small painting company where the best purchase was a paint sprayer. Dan became an accountant and Cindy pursued a BA in communications, a degree that has stood her in good stead. 
The first social of the year is Wed Sept 2 from 5pm- 7:30 pm at Shackehlicious, a stationary food truck located 5 minutes south of Red Deer on Range Road 273. This social is put on by Rotary Sunrise and open to clubs in our area. It is a great way to meet other Rotarians and even provide others with a key resource- blood. Whether you have donated blood recently, want to celebrate those who have donated, or just want to be part of a social you are invited. Let us know you are coming to the social by
