History of the Club 1962-70
1962/63

The Club met on Thursdays at 6.00pm in the Waikerie Hotel. The Club Banner was designed by the Arts Teacher from the Waikerie High School; signs were prepared and erected at the entrance to the town, and the Club was officially on the map. The Club’s first project was the raising of the money for the St John Ambulance Appeal - 98 pound 19 shillings.
1963/64

This year saw the start of the Strangman Road tree planting scheme. Jacaranda trees were planted and tree guards made and fixed around them. Then came the task of keeping the trees watered. Each member took his turn, and most trees flourished. A sign was provided for the Hospital. Information was being sought regarding the establishment of a Senior Citizen's Home.
Our first Rotary exchange student, Gayle French arrived from America.
1964/65

This year saw the opening of the Opportunity Shop on the 4th September 1964. Fund raising began towards the Senior Citizen's Home, and site possibilities were discussed. The Club sponsored the Public Meeting for the formation of the Homes for the Aged in Waikerie. The meeting was attended by 80 people.
Our Exchange Student Pat Lehmann left to travel to the U.S.A.
before she travels to the USA.

1965/66

During this year the Club sponsored the Rural Youth Club of Waikerie and the Club was formed at a meeting held in August 1965. A car rally was held and $200.00 was raised and donated to the Senior Citizen's Home. An Interact Club was formed at the High School when 30 boys met at the High School and asked the Rotary Club to sponsor them. Twenty Foundation members of the Waikerie High School Interact Club were inducted on the 19th November 1965. $1,800 was handed over to the Senior Citizen's Home.
Rosemary Glover was our outgoing Exchange Student to the U.S.A.
1966/67

Proposals to build a Look Out Tower were considered during this year. The Senior Citizens Building Appeal was finalised and the Building commenced. The Foundation stone was laid by the District Governor for that year Ferg Ballantyne in May 1967. A total of $3,467 was raised by the Rotary Club towards the building cost, an achievement of which we can justly be proud. The Club also launched an appeal for Mick Curtis and it raised $1,950 to help his family. The Club also negotiated with the Housing Trust for the family.
Following the bush fires in Tasmania, the Rotary Club sponsored an appeal for funds to help the victims of the fire. The Club donated $100.00 and $654.00 was raised by a public appeal a total of $754.00.
1967/68

A survey into the need for a "Meals on Wheels" service in Waikerie was conducted. A careers night was organised for the students at the Waikerie High School. The Look Out Tower was still under construction. The Senior Citizens' Home was opened on November 12th 1967. Assistance was given to Mick Curtis to move into his new Trust Home. The Interact Club donated $120.00 to the School Library. Lawn was planted at the Senior Citizens' Home, "Warrawee Lodge". A wing of the Warrawee Lodge was named after Frank Hart who passed away this year.

The Rotary Club sponsored the "Meals on Wheels" kitchen which was built and opened on the 27th April 1969. The Club donated $500.00 to the project. The Look Out Tower was completed. Assistance was given to the Kindergarten, by donating half of the Opportunity Shop takings to them for 6 months.

1969/70

President of the Inland Pool Committee.
A public meeting was convened by the Club to establish a Senior Citizen's Club.
Glaucoma tests were organised on November 30th 1969 and 700 people were tested. $1000.00 was donated to the swimming pool Committee to pay for material for the perimeter fence at the Swimming Pool.
The Interact Club donated $107.00 to Meals on Wheels.
Neil Andrew was selected as a member of the Group Study Exchange team to visit the USA
