Youth Citizen of the Year Award 2009

The Rotary Club of Olds is pleased to present the Youth Citizen of the Year Award to Phillip Richard.

Phillip Richard is a grade 12 student attending Olds High School.  Phillip is a very talented young man, having been chosen and selected as a second place finalist in Oprah Winfrey's contest to search for "The Worlds Smartest and Talented Kids".  His accomplishment may land him an appearance on her show, which will certainly be exciting.  Phil has been very involved on the organizing committee of the recently held Canadian Student Leadership Conference.  Phillip is actively involved in creating and a participating in youth activities which promote motivation and opportunities to help ones' self have a positive effect on the world and citizens of his community. Phillip recently won 1st place from the creation of a video he created as an"Anti Smoking Campaign".  He volunteers playing the piano at many local and provincial events, including raising money for Rwanda, and even entertaining premier Ed Stelmach and other dignitaries.  Throughout his varied contributions to his community Phillip has maintained his academic honor role status.  Phil plans to pursue a music composition degree at the University of McGill in Montreal next year.

Our congratulations go to Phillip.  Olds is a better place for his dedication to service beyond self.
