Congratulations to Mrs. Bonnie Giles, our Citizen of the Year, Bonnie is an individual who exemplifies the essence of a truly devoted volunteer who gives selflessly to the citizens of our community.  Bonnie is an active citizen of our community in many aspects and roles.   She has regular unpaid position at the Olds Hospital in the Surgery department.  Bonnie chairs the Olds Fashioned Christmas, Festival of Trees committee.  She is also an integral member of the Olds Physician Attraction and Retainment Committee.  Bonnie is a founding member of the committee, she takes an active role welcoming medical students, residents and physicians who have indicated an interest in Olds as a potential destination for their medical career.

Mrs. Fern Olsen is the Rotary Club of Olds Humanitarian of the Year recipient.  Fern has a lengthy volunteer record; she has just celebrated her 90th birthday and still volunteers regularly at the Olds Hospital.  She has served over 40 years in the church choir, served with the Olds Fair in judging exhibits, has served many years on the local and College library and Parkland Regional Library boards, and been involved in the Kiwanis Music festival to mention just part of her long list. Fern insists that her interest in helping others was what motivated her to volunteer, and that the variety of volunteer activities made it lots of fun!

Kayley Reed has been selected as this year’s Youth Citizen of the Year.  Kayley was recognized for her role as chair of the Canadian National Youth Leadership Conference held in Olds in 2009, and her role as Co-Chair of the Student Council for the Olds High School during this past school year, 2010-2011.  Kayley is pursuing a Leadership degree a t the University of New Brunswick.
