Deer Meadow School Interact Club Helps spread the Rotary Way

Deer Meadow Interact Club is a certified club through the Rotary Club of Olds.  We operate on the same principles and values as Rotary International groups.  These values include the 4 Way Test, which includes consideration of the following:

1)      Is it the TRUTH?
2)      Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3)      Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4)      Is it BENEFICIAL to all?

Each project we work on must answer yes to each of these questions.  Our projects must benefit people in our school, our local community as well as our global community.

The projects our DMS students have been involved with this year include:

-          Donation of time and materials to help make scarecrow decorations for the Rotary Harvest Ball fundraiser in October.

-          Head Shave For Canadian Cancer  Society donation of over $8000

-          UNICEF donation of $500 through Candy Apple Sales

-          SPCA Pennies for Paws donation of $722 (via collection of pennies and spare change)

-          Cerebral Palsy donation of $960 through Epicure sales and handmade cards (made by students)

-          Fair Trade product sales during Student Conferences

-          Girl Effect donation to MEDIC Canada as a micro-loan of $500 to help women become small business owners in Ghana (money collected via student crafted products such as bracelets and bookmarks just as the women in Ghana might do)

-          Windows to the World connecting us to students in India and Kenya via Skype so we can learn from and about our global peers.

The money for these donations comes from Pita sales as well as student donations.  Thank you, on behalf of the DMS Interact Club, for all of your support of these projects.  Without your help, we could not be successful.
