Olds and District Citizen of the Year Award  2009

The Rotary Club of Olds is pleased to present the Citizen of the Year Award to Kathy Doyle,

It is a pleasure to recognize this individual in our community who demonstrates a high degree of service beyond self in the areas of community service, community development, volunteerism and show active involvement in helping others within the community.
Kathy is an active volunteer.   She led the Theatre Seat Campaign as a major fundraising initiative, including a radiothon, for the Fine Arts and Multi Media Centre and raised $500,000.  With the seats purchased, Kathy became involved in the planning for the grand opening of the Fine Arts and Multi Media Centre, which included organizing 200 performers on the day of the event.  Minister Lindsay Blackett surprised the guests with the announcement that the Fine Arts Centre would be one of five locations to host Alberta Arts Days.  This provided Kathy with the opportunity to take on the role of volunteer Chair for this provincial event.  She emceed the day long community showcase, coordinating fourteen different performers from across the province and welcoming guests to the celebrations.   The Canadian Student Leadership Conference held in Olds just two weeks ago was also a recipient of Kathy's volunteer work, where Kathy was able to help throughout the conference in various capacities.  Kathy takes an active role in many organizations in our community including the Kiwanis Club of Olds, her church, the schools and other community groups.  Kathy is overwhelmed and humbled receiving this award.  She would like to thank her family, employees and others in the community for their continuous support over the years.  "The support of these key individuals has enabled me to volunteer in our community, and without their support, these opportunities would otherwise not have been possible".
