ROTARY CLUB OF MEDICINE HAT SUNRISE

Our Club was chartered June 5, 1998 by the Medicine Hat Rotary Club.

Sunrise Rotarians represent business, professional, and retired people of the community who lend their attributes and talents, resulting in an active membership. We have fun and engaging meetings, usually with lots of laughter, while remaining committed to strong community involvement with a focus on literacy and youth. We work together on fundraising and friendship-raising.

Some of the major projects our club has done include funding the 'Sunrise Rotary Trail' at the Medicine Hat College, the 'Sunrise Rotary Ride the Road to Reading' program with the Medicine Hat Public Library, and, in partnership with other Rotary clubs in the city, we have helped fund the 'Rotary Flower Bed' at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital and the 'Rotary Track and Field' site at Crescent Heights High School. Our international projects have been in Mexico, Indonesia, Kenya, Nigeria, and Guatemala, as well as helping in times of crisis throughout the world, and in Canada.

During the covid pandemic period the club moved from a weekly meeting schedule to instead meeting twice a month, and we decided to keep that schedule, meeting the first Tuesday (a business meeting) and the third Tuesday (featuring a guest speaker) each month. The club also decided at that time to move away from a board and committee structure in order to be more nimble. Now all members take part in the administrative discussions and decisions, allowing the club to be more timely and effective.

Since 2021 the Sunrise club has supported a satellite club, Rotary Ignite, which offers another vibrant club opportunity and alternative meeting times.

In 2023 the club took on organizing the annual Terry Fox Run in the city, one of over 600 locations across Canada. The organizing committee is mostly Sunrise and Ignite club members but there are also people from the community. The first year was so successful that the amount raised was more than double the highest amount raised in the city in the past 43 years of the Run! And in 2024 even that amount was surpassed, making the event a very successful program for the club.

If you are looking for the development of friends as an opportunity for service, a world of fellowship is within your reach by joining us. You will be warmly welcomed.
