Rotary Club of Grafton Midday – Media Release

Rotary International is proud to present the film “Ride like a Girl” for its Australia wide release.  It is a heart-warming story of the young girl who battles disadvantage with determination and hard work to achieve her dream.  Ride like a Girl is the incredible true story of Michelle Payne.  As a little girl, Michelle Payne (played by Teresa Palmer) dreams of the impossible, winning the Melbourne Cup, horse racing’s toughest two-mile race The youngest of 10 children, Michelle is raised by her single father Paddy (played by Sam Neill).
She leaves school at 15 to become a jockey and, after early failure, she finds her feet. A family tragedy followed by her own near fatal horse for all but ends her dream. With the love of her dad and brother Stevie, Michelle will not give up. Against all the medical advice and protests of her siblings, she rides on and meets Prince of Penzance. Together, they overcome impossible odds for a shot at her dream, a ride in the 2015 Melbourne Cup at odds of 100 to 1. The rest is history.
The Rotary Club of Grafton Midday is proud to present this film, for a single night only, with all the proceeds to be donated to Rotary’s END POLIO NOW program. Rotary’s END POLIO
NOW program aims to eliminate polio world-wide and is very, very close to achieving that aim.

The film will screen at Grafton’s Saraton Theatre on Thursday, 26 September 2019 starting at 6:30 pm
