Talk about the loaves and fishes, amazing how 16 lunch acceptances can turn into 24, but, great to see you all.
Although the meeting was a Club Assembly it was more of a report from the directors attending and hopefully we will hear from the rest on Wednesday.
Good to see Herman is on the “Rotary” ball 24/7 after a call from him in Mumbai, India, (where he is holidaying…….?)
And, as a result it was pleasing to welcome Brad Wheat to lunch, and hopefully we will see more of him.
Jacaranda fundraising is going well with our Christmas in July enjoyed by all at the Criterion Theatre, and helped to swell the coffers for Zahli’s fund. Likewise
the Junior Jacaranda girl’s Music Trivia night was a roaring success on Saturday night and our junior entrant, Miriam, presented herself well, an asset to our
club. Unfortunately our teams were not successful but a good roll up and thanks to those who attended.
It was a good opportunity to catch up with our exchange student, Drew Tuttle, from the USA and I am sure his feet have not hit the ground yet. Annie Lydon,
his current host, even had him doing the 5km Park Run on Saturday morning, which he achieved reasonably very well. They also joined Lee at Bom Bom on Sunday & smashed another 9km trail run....
I am still looking for volunteers to join us at Dougherty Villa for lunch with the residents. It is not an arduous task and it could brighten up some one’s day.

Harry & Shona will be visiting our club on August 28th - Come along and meet our new District Governor.
Harry has been a member of the Tenterfield Rotary Club since October 2002 and President in 2006/07 and 2016/17. Harry has served the District as AG (Group 9) for 3 years and has served in many club positions including: Vice President, Rotary International Director, Club Director, Community Director and Membership Director. In 2016 Harry became a Paul Harris Fellow.
Born and raised in Bruce Rock, Western Australia, approximately 275 kilometres east of Perth, Harry completed his education at boarding school in Merredin. After finishing school Harry then spent a couple of years working in northern Western Australia in the mining industry and on remote cattle stations. Harry met wife Shauna and they have been happily married for 40 years. They have lived in the Tenterfield area on the Northern Tablelands, New South Wales, for the past 32 years and have 3 adult children – daughter Caledonia, who has been Head of Junior Secondary at Yeppoon High School and lives with her husband John and daughters Isabella and Caitlin; son Fraser who is Head of English at The SCOTS PGC College, Warwick, married to Claire and father of Euan and Archie; and son Cameron who operates his own cabinet-making business in Tenterfield.
Harry completed tertiary qualifications in Facility Management and Project Management through the University of New England. He has had an extensive career in Public Programs and Economic and Community Development and currently works for the Tenterfield Shire Council as Manager of Community and Economic Development, with previous employment in the Department of Defence in Training and Development. Shauna is a nurse at Prince Albert Hospital, Tenterfield.
Harry and Shauna are active in their community, particularly with Rotary activities. These include taking principal roles organising the Tenterfield Rotary German Cultural Festival, Tenterfield Rotary Jazzy Garden Party and Combined Rotary and Lions Christmas Fair. Harry is also heavily involved with the Tenterfield Chamber of Tourism Industry and Business, Tenterfield Drama Club, and Friends of the Sir Henry Parkes Memorial School of Arts. Shauna is an active member and secretary of the Tenterfield Patient Care Committee. His hobbies include highland pipe bands, travelling and Australian Rules Football.
Harry believes that the District Governor's position provides him with a fantastic opportunity to serve his community. He thinks that Rotary needs to be all the things we talk about: fun, engaging, networking, connecting, providing a helping hand, fostering leadership and developing leaders.
RYDA will be held this year Thursday 22nd Friday 23rd August at the Yamba Sports Centre.
They are also looking for volunteers for the two days, as a club we have usually provided volunteers for either one or the two days.
RYDA (Rotary Youth Driver Awareness) is designed for 16-18 year old students who are approaching that crucial time in their lives where they start to drive independently or are travelling as passengers of one of their peers.
It is a series of practical workshops that aim to change the way young people think about road safety. As part of an interactive one-day experience, students experience braking at different speeds, devise travel strategies that will work in the real world and get tips from road safety experts on how to protect themselves, their friends & their family.
Perhaps the most powerful moments come from the personal stories of loss & survival.
In one session, students watch a powerful & emotional video on the life & tragic death of an 18 year old provisional driver & in another, they sit with a crash survivor & hear first-hand how one poor choice can change a life forever.
Defibrillators have proven to be life saving devices for victims of heart attacks. Vandal proof units are available for use 24/7.
After a heart attack, time is of the essence. If a unit is reachable within the first 5 minutes the victim stands a good chance of recovery but 10 minutes or more the chances of survival decrease dramatically.
The Rotary Club of Grafton Midday will oversee the project which will be accomplished within 12 months.

There are few defibrillators available within the Grafton CBD and definitely not available 24/7. We need them available any time.
A defibrillator needs to be used within 5-10 minutes of a heart attack. Waiting for an ambulance is too late.

ETC in conjunction with Clarence Valley Council and Grafton TAFE, are organising an event called My Future Fest on Tuesday 20 August.
My Future Fest will be targeting youth aged 15 – 21 in the Grafton LGA. Local High Schools will be invited to attend, however our main focus is to reach disengaged youth (who aren’t working or studying).
The overall objective is to focus on goal setting for young people through showcasing careers and training pathways, health and well-being, in a festival atmosphere with entertainment and practical workshops and activities.
Our club have committed to support the BBQ for them as requested. They expect around 400 people in attendance.
