This week, we were visited by Daphne, a hich school Junior who had participated in Rotary's Youth Exchange Program.  She had been sponsored by Newfoundland Rotary Club and ended up spending her exchange time in Finland.

When Daphne arrived in Finland, she met up with 160 other students from all over the world.  Together they all attended a language camp set up by a Finnish Rotary club.  Daphne stayed with 3 host families during her time in Finland, she described to us the varying dynamics of each stay, the new food she was able to try (including Reindeer tongue!) and some traveling she was able to do with her host families, including Lapland and the Arctic Circle!

Daphne and her family voiced their appreciation to Rotary for making it possible for her to have such a unique and educational experience immersed in another culture.  Currently the exchange program is still on “Hold” due to COVID restrictions, but in the future our Rotary Club of Hamlin strives to sponsor a local student looking to experience the adventures of another culture.
