Together, we Empower people to strive to become the best versions of themselves that they can be.
One of the many great things about Rotary is that monies that we raise comes back to us here locally within our community. We receive this money via a grant we apply for from our District to allow us to help others within the community. In the past, we have used grant money to do a number of things within our community (i.e: benches and the playground at the Salem Twp Park, a gazebo at the Hamlin Senior Center, to name a few).
Our Rotary Club hosted an event last October for our community which was an open forum on heroin and opioid abuse in Wayne County. At this event, we invited members from throughout our county who work closely with those struggling with addiction to be panelists for the night. These panelists talked to our audience about what they see in their profession and what they think we can do/should do if someone needs help. We had a great turnout and we quickly realized that we can do more to help those who are trying to create a sober lifestyle for themselves.
With the help of our grant this year, we were able to help Little Creek Lodge. Little Creek Lodge is a drug and alcohol treatment center here in Southern Wayne County that is geared towards helping young men live a sober lifestyle. We donated 3 Apple computers and 3 licenses for Microsoft Office 365. This donation will help the young men at Little Creek Lodge to prepare for their lives after treatment. These computers will allow them the opportunity to look for housing, build a resume, obtain their GED/attend online college courses, and search for a job. They will also be able to learn more about their own individual addiction.
The men at Little Creek Lodge were so thankful for the donation of these computers and we sincerely wish them all the best!
