New Generations Avenue of Service

This refers to the youngest generation in the Rotary family.  Many are participants in Rotary's youth and young adult programs: Interact, Rotoract, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), and Rotary Youth Exchange.  Others are service-minded young people involved in Rotary club and district activities. Rotary clubs should be committed to involving youth and young adults in their vocational, community, and international projects, and to providing programs and resources that support them.

INTERACT is Rotary's service club for youth ages 12-18.  Interact clubs can be community-based or school-based.  Individual Rotary clubs sponsor Interact clubs and provide them with support and guidance, but each Interact club is self-governing and self-supporting.  The goals of Interact include developing leadership skills and personal integrity, demonstrating helpfulness and respect for others, understanding the value of individual responsibility and hard work, and advancing international understanding and goodwill.

Young people can contribute to Community Service in Projects as:

•    Raising money to eradicate polio
•    Volunteering to assist senior citizens
•    Organizing neighborhood cleanups
•    Working with organizations to hold career fairs
•    Holding food drives
•    Holding AIDS/HIV awareness campaigns
•    Cleaning and repairing bicycles to be donated to needy kids
•    Visiting primary schools to talk about decision making skills

A successful collaboration on a service project may lead to increased

interest in Rotary.  Fred is director of New Generatons and will be pur-

suing many of these possibilities.  Volunteer your service to him and

be a part of this burgeoning area.
