Thanks to Hawke's Bay Trails, the latest counter information from selected trails is available. 

    The Marine Parade pathway showed a 43% increase in use in the first six months of this year: Jan 33107, Feb 22171, Mar 19447, April 30510,  May 14057 and June 14811. 

    The Taradale counter showed Jan 5925, Feb 4804, Mar 4194, April 5601, May 3096 and June usage of 3401.  There are now counters on approximately 54% of the total network of pathways and trails and more are budgeted for.

The Pathways Trust has completed planting around the Rotary Shelters.  Additional landscaping along Marine Parade is envisaged in this Rotary year.  A new rotary shelter around the Kirsa Jensen memorial is yet to be decided.

The Pathway beside the Expressway - from Pirimai to Jervoistown, is underway and is an iWay project. Iway projects are part financed by NZ Transport Agency. We also have  off road pathways financed by the Napier Rotary Pathways Trust, and urban pathways financed by the Napier City Council with help from the Government's Urban Cycleway programme.

Prebensen Drive -  the railway link on the north side of Prebensen Drive is now blocked off and there is a boardwalk over the stream near the Austin St end of Prebensen Drive and links with Taradale Road at the eastern end.

Work is continuing by the Pathways Trust to extend "Maggies Way" along the Western Hills with Taradale to Poraiti being planned.  Maggies Way  has come from money left by the late Basic McCoward to the Pathways Trust.  The initial stage of Te Ara o Matareta "Maggie’s Way" pathway at Otatara Pa, Taradale, was completed in August 2016.  If you haven't walked it yet and can walk up hill -  a fantastic view awaits you.  A very spiritual walk.
