The team of 8 from Ahuriri Sunrise was and proud (and frankly stunned) to win 3rd place in Taradale RCs Quiz Night. The near-victory was the combination of great intelligence, memory and healthy amount of TV and sport watching over the years. Don’t knock it – you never know when you will need to know who kicked the most goals ever for the All Blacks! Our dream brain belonged to Jo Wiig, who did her absent daughter proud, remembering brands, songs and movies.
This was a fundraising evening to raise money for Shelterbox, and it was a great success. It began with drinks, a good hearty meal and during the quiz lots of good raffle prizes were drawn and lucky-dip brown bags were auctioned. We were lucky not to have to pay $70 for a couple of bottles of tonic and a rubber ducky for the bath. The auctioneer and MC/Quizmaster for the evening was an excellent, energetic young fellow, Brayden Coldicutt President of Taradale RSA, whom we hope will do the same for us when we hold another quiz night.
Questions ranged from music, over sport and movies to Rotary/Shelterbox questions. The one answer we all need to remember is the Sir Timothy John Berners-Lee, who was????
Probably the most memorable part of the evening for me was a game of Heads or Tails. I duly took out a $2 coin and practised my coin tossing, until I realised how damnably simple the game actually was. Many ladies shyly put their hands on their tails, only having to sit back down on them pretty smartly. It was a quick and easy game but none of us got close to winning.
Altogether Taradale R C, President Kate and Shelterbox organiser Claire Connor, should be congratulated on a great evening. And of course – Super Sunrisers came home with a bronze medal (well – figuratively), a challenge to the next team of super-quizzers from Ahuriri Sunrise.
