3 minute speech from Nigel who described the activities of his church St Andrews at Westshore, he is one of the 3 ordained but non stipendary priests. A small congregation but covering a vast area. An impressive return ($30-40,000) from the Parish Op Shop….eg Hukarere school for school camp shortfall and Seascouts to get members to a jamboree.

Speaker, Joe Payton was introduced by Edgar.
Joe, a Wairarapa boy became from a farming family with a very strong emphasis on sport.
He had many successful years playing until a medical crisis brought his rugby career to an end while at University.

Being so very ill with multiple medications he turned his attention to Health and Wellness.
He completed a Physical Education degree and is now Manager of Hawkes Bay Community Fitness Centre Trust based at the EIT institute of Sport and Health at the Regional Sports Centre.
Prior to this current role Joe managed the HB Rugby Academy some of his charges went on to international careers in Rugby, Joe ran quickly through the wide ranging sports opportunities including weightlifting, hockey, soccer, basketball, athletics available there, all user pays. A number of health professionals are there also. Some sponsorship helps along with Local Government and various Trusts for the Sport/life programmes.
The Olympic Swimming pool is under construction, a cafe, gyms etc available to all.
This has led to vocational opportunities coming up for sports men and women returning to HB.
Joe also outlined interesting research with Auckland University Tech using $1.3m Health Research funds to monitor school children in HB and South Auckland involving the children being fitted with heart sensors as they do vigorous activities prior to lessons beginning each day.
Other programs involve resilience, leadership, team building, life skills and the potential for Youth Athlete workload overload.
