3min speaker:
Toby described his experiences good and bad at running marathons.
The message is to drink as much water as is available and try to match the first half timing with the second. His best was 1.36 plus 1.36. Well done Toby!
Edgar introduced our guest speaker Fiona Windle from “Beef and Lamb NZ”
Fiona told us how after 4 years as a Medic in the Airforce she went to Massey to study science.

She is now nutritionalist at Beef and Lamb. Her talk focused on the future of meat. Given the emerging trends in diet choices, huge investment in alternative proteins, pressure from social media, the promotion of plant based alternative protein all parts of the meat industry need to be informed and concerned
The Impossible Burger available at supermarkets, mock chicken, tech developed cell cultured “meat” etc. the Impossible Burger made of (probably GE) Soy products has been developed to ‘bleed’ by using an element on soy roots
The price of 2 patties is $13 about the same as premium beef.
Of course the environmental cost of production is unknown. Australia is working on rules for labelling so the consumer will not be confused.
This is particularly important re nutritional content.
Maurice thanked Fiona for her very interesting talk which prompted more than the usual number of questions.
Last word from Andy
