Michael Pierson played O'Canada and Manon Mitchell accompanied him beautifully on all the musical selections. The meeting began with a Euology to the Honourable Wm K (Ken) Moore (December 5, 1925 - March 31, 2016), he became a Rotarian on September 10, 1968 and was later an Honourary Rotarian. His service will be held on Thursday April 7, 2016 at 10:30 AM. Ken was described as a fine, fine man who made a huge contribution to our communities.

Sean Miles introduced our speaker, Mike Derbyshire, GM Calgary Parking Authority. We soon found out that Calgary Parking Authority is an $85 million business! Mike has an impressive career, the highlights include:
 
  • 25 years with the EDM Police Department achieving the rank of Inspector
  • Director of Safety and Security for EDM Transit 
  • Assistant VP at Servus Enterprise Risk Management)
  • Various roles with Northlands as a Director Risk, Safety and Security;Executive Director Operations; and Acting VP Business Operations
  • General Manager of CPA – 14 months

Adult Literacy Reports
 
The Adult Literacy Committee of The Rotary Club of Calgary has been making a difference in adult literacy for over fifteen years. A new initiative focused on improving adult literacy and family learning skills was launched in the fall of 2015. This initiative is described in detail in the Mid-Point Evaluation of the Homework Help Program. The program is funded by the Rotary Club of Calgary working with its partners, the Calgary Public Library and Bow Valley College. The Rotary Club of Calgary continues to support foundational learning and essential skills for adults through Adult Basic Literacy Education. See the full Report.
