Christmas Stories, Reading and Big Book Sale 2024!

How can you enrich holiday reading traditions with the kids in your life? What is the Big Book Sale Transition Committee working on now? Read on for inspired stories and storytelling.
Prevention of hypothermia (coldness) saves lives of newborn babies. As part of Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) with skin to skin care and exclusive breast or breastmilk feeding KMC also improves nutrition, decreases infection and reduces maternal postpartum depression.
Concern that lack of measures to ensure Ukrainian babies stayed warm during conditions of war lead the International Rotary Fellowship of Healthcare Professionals (IRFHP) to act.
I received a wonderful email from Liz Ballendine from the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation. You may recall that our club recently approved funding to build a playground adjacent to the Rotary Flames House.
In her email Liz states:
"Hot off the press, here are the first concepts/ideas for our Rotary Flames House playground.
As you can see, it will be colorful, functional, safe and more private for the kids and the siblings to enjoy."
On December 15th, 22 mentees and 18 mentors came together for an awesome evening at Carya. Mentors and mentees enjoyed getting to know each other better, as well as meeting the other mentors and students in the program. We played a jeopardy game (the kids beat the adults every time!), put together care packages and made Christmas cards for the Drop-In Centre, built gingerbread houses and shared pizza together. It was the first event of its kind but definitely not the last!

As the Big Book Sale Transition Committee concluded its final meeting and inaugurated the first gathering of the Big Book Sale Committee, we took the opportunity to discuss and celebrate the traditions we uphold during this festive season.
