Meet New Member Jayme Williams
Diane Macdonald
If you were at the lunch meeting on October 24th, you may have met Jayme in person. For those who weren’t there, here is brief profile on one of our newest members.
Jayme Williams grew up in Milestone, Saskatchewan- a town of 500. She attended Minot State University in journalism and eventually ended up in law school at the University of Saskatchewan. She began her career at Jaques Law Office, a small general practice firm in Saskatchewan and then moved on to the Saskatchewan Prosecution office in Regina. In 2006, she joined the Calgary Prosecution Office and filled a variety of roles with Alberta Justice before being appointed to what was then the Provincial Court of Alberta as a Judge in May of 2022. She is married to a wonder man who is a finance professional here in Calgary and has one adult stepson. She has a soft spot for all animals (but most importantly her two dogs Scamp and Kona) and loves travel and any activity that gets her outside with her family and pets here or in Saskatchewan.
Jayme is interested in becoming involved in our Club’s efforts to feed the hungry – the Murdoch Manor BBQs or the events at our Stay in School locations.
Welcome Jayme!
An Evening to Remember
Manon Mitchell
Last Tuesday evening, November 7, forty five Rotarians, friends and family joined together to address 286 Christmas Cards to those men and women of our Canadian Armed Forces who will be deployed and away from their families at Christmas.
RCCD and other clubs (Centennial, Chinook, East, Fish Creek, North, Sarcee and West) launched Rotary Helps YYC in February 2023. This is a demonstration pilot for a “one window” access for Rotary support.
On November 4th, the mentors of the Carl Smith Stay-in-School Program gathered at the YCC Ogden Youth Centre for our bi-annual mentor session. We got to know each other more, had discussions about any challenges we’re facing, asked questions and shared a meal. In the afternoon we heard from Sinela Jurkova, Diversity Education Lead at Calgary Catholic Immigration Society (CCIS). She lead an excellent presentation and discussion on culture and personal biases, while shedding some light on the situations our SIS families may be experiencing.
We still have 4 boys who are in need of a mentor, please contact Alana at stayinschool@rotaryclubofcalgary.ca if you’ve ever thought about mentoring and having a real impact in a young student’s life.
We are looking forward to our SIS Program Christmas Party on December 15th!

If you missed the Sept. 26 Rotary Club of Calgary Downtown meeting, we hope you can join us for one of these virtual sessions to explore how we're raising the next generation of readers and building a thriving reading community!
On behalf of the Foundations Committee, thank you to the 50+ Rotary Club of Calgary (RCC) members and guests who joined our zoom presentation on Oct.17/23 as we celebrated and thanked past and current club members for creating our greatest enduring legacy- our Calgary Rotary Club’s Foundation Endowment Fund.
