Tina Mao
Tina Mao immigrated to Canada around ten years ago from China with her parents.
Tina completed her Master's degree in Business Administration at Queen's University and her Bachelor of Commerce degree from Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary, majoring in International Business.
Tina is the founder and CEO of Leo Charter Services, a charter vehicle services company in Canada. Tina started the business because she loves travel. She is passionate about this business and feels so happy everytime she sees customer enjoy their services. She hopes to create a unique and high-satisfaction customer experience for anyone who travels in Canada. Tina is now pursuing a new tech venture specializing in developing innovative products and services for the Transportation, Leisure & Entertainment, and Travel industries.
Tina's philosophy on life is exploration and discovery, where every obstacle is seen as an opportunity for growth. She is a lifetime learner and strives to continuously apply what she learned to real practices in life and business.
Tina enjoys maintaining a healthy lifestyle and spending time with family and friends.
In joining the Rotary Club, Tina hopes to learn more about the local culture, forge meaningful connections with fellow professionals, and contribute to the community in meaningful ways. She is eager to learn from diverse perspectives, be inspired by the talents and experiences of others, and ultimately, make a positive impact on the lives of those around her.

Granting Strategy Task Force Survey Results

Thank you to all Club Members who completed the Granting Strategy Task Force’s (GSTF) Club Survey!
Through the Granting Strategy Focus Groups that were held earlier this year, feedback revealed a desire to survey Club members regarding one of the key elements of the strategy- the local discretionary granting priorities. The GSTF therefore developed a survey in April 2024 to canvas members regarding their views on the Club’s local discretionary granting priorities, as well as members’ capacity and interest to engage in these priorities.
Spring at YCC is the season of long days of outdoor play for the kids at YCC Ogden.
We have been seeing unprecedented numbers of kids bounding through our doors each day, which indicates both the need for our work and our success in meeting new challenges as they emerge.
As ever, every child is met at the door after school by the stalwart and compassionate volunteers who continue to offer kindness, compassion and direction to our crew who often head straight to the kitchen and help themselves to the healthy snacks we offer. There the kids catch up and share the stories of their day with each other and with the staff. It’s a lively and homey atmosphere in the kitchen after school.

It's available to all Rotarians around the world! After that date the price goes up, so register starting May 25 (NOTE: some volunteer positions will require registration to the convention)
It’s BAR-B-Q Season!!

Our Club has a long history of hosting great Bar-B-Qs, big and small, for various community groups. This season, we have again been asked to provide these great events for several of our affiliated organizations, starting with our own Calgary Reads Big Book Sale where Book Sale volunteers had an opportunity to purchase books before we opened to the public. This event is called Spread the Words. Blue sky, sunshine and Hot Dogs (plus oranges!) made this a perfect Bar-b-q event – what better way to celebrate the Sale and say a big “Thank You” to all the volunteers who make it happen?
We have several other Bar-B-Q events coming up:

June 22nd – Aboriginal Awareness Week Calgary Family Day Pow Wow
June 27th – Father Lacombe Seniors
September 26th – Valley View and Ian Balzagette Schools

Already, we’ve seen so many Rotary faces bringing the 20th Calgary Reads Big Book Sale to life. With hundreds of hearts and hands sorting books and eagerly awaiting opening day—and some of the special anniversary festivities—it’s easy to see why this sale has become a beautiful, impactful way to engage with our community.
On the weekend of April 27 -28, we had three groups at three different locations accepting donations of books for the Big BookSale. At Crowfoot Y in the northwest, a large group of volunteers from our Club, the Calgary North Rotary Club and others collected multiple boxes of books and stacked them onto pallets to fill two trucks for our Big Book Sale. It was a fun, productive few hours with an opportunity for some great fellowship.

Rotary Employment Partnership Update - June 11 Rotary Meeting

The Partnership has now officially developed over 820 jobs across Alberta for individuals with intellectual disabilities. This includes a new job at KPMG’s Calgary office where Jade has been hired for their Office Services team. See the Spring Newsletter.
Please mark your calendar for our June 11 Rotary Meeting. It will be a good one with Wendy MacDonald speaking to Jeff Large about his experience as an employer hiring through the Rotary Employment Partnership. Jeff was the Area General Manager when DHL Express used the services of the Partnership to hire three individuals with intellectual disabilities. Wendy is the Rotarian who founded the Rotary Employment Partnership over 20 years ago and is the COO of Inclusion Alberta, our Partner in the Partnership.
