Senator Doug Black
By Doug MacDonald

It isn't every day that a member of another Rotary Club introduces our guest speaker but it also isn't every day that the son of a well known Rotarian speaks to our club. Calgary- South member Doug Black ably introduced his son, Senator Doug Black. Jack admitted that his daughter wrote the introduction so this was a family affair.

Calling All Stampede Barbecue Event Volunteers
By Craig Henderson

We need hundreds of volunteers to cater two of the largest parties in the city, and you can register yourself, as well as your friends and family, to volunteer at the Stampede Roundup and/or the Oxford Stomp by following the registration links below.

STAMPEDE ROUNDUP - Wednesday, July 13, 2016
OXFORD STOMP - Friday, July 15, 2016

As we are continuing our efforts build a database of reliable volunteers, we really need a valid email address and phone number for each volunteer you sign up.

COG Reporter Retiring: We Need You!

We are sad to report that as of July 1 Doug MacDonald is transferring to the Heritage Park club due to some significant changes in his work schedule. Doug has enjoyed his experience with the Rotary Club of Calgary and is looking forward to continuing his Rotary adventure.

The COG will miss Doug's contribution as a devoted scribe and we are hoping there is another keen Rotarian who is looking to fill his shoes... please email the office if you are interested in reporting for the COG.

Syrian Refugees Seeking Employment – Can you help?
By Barbara Young

The Rotary Club of Calgary Syrian Refugee Committee would appreciate it if any of our club members could help the members of one of our families find employment.  They are desperate and willing to pursue employment in any area, not just in their area of expertise.
Sami Issak – High School student (completing grade 10) – experienced as a bakery helper (in Calgary) and waiter (in Syria).
Randa Saomi – English teacher in Syria for 30 years – fluent in Arabic and English
Souhil Issak – Civil Engineer – Sixteen years employed in land development focused on construction sites.  More recently ran a business that provided services related to waterproofing/epoxy flooring/ injection/protective coatings.
