Mayor Naheed Nenshi Annual Address to the Club
By Andrea Serink

Terry McMahon introduced our guest speaker Mayor Naheed Nenshi joking that the mayor requires no introduction as there would not be a single person in the room who didn’t know our famous mayor. Terry explained Mayor Nenshi is in his 6th year of office, holds a business degree, a masters from Harvard taught at Mount Royal University for a number of years and was elected our Mayor of the City of Calgary in 2010. Nenshi was ranked second most important person in Canada, next to Prime Minister Stephen Harper, by Maclean's magazine 50 top Canadians list in 2013 and he was awarded the 'World Mayor' prize in 2014 by the City Mayors Foundation, making him the first Canadian mayor to win the award.

Syrian Refugees Seeking Employment – Can you help?
By Barbara Young

The Rotary Club of Calgary Syrian Refugee Committee would appreciate it if any of our club members could help the members of one of our families find employment.  They are desperate and willing to pursue employment in any area, not just in their area of expertise.
Sami Issak – High School student (completing grade 10) – experienced as a bakery helper (in Calgary) and waiter (in Syria).
Randa Saomi – English teacher in Syria for 30 years – fluent in Arabic and English
Souhil Issak – Civil Engineer – Sixteen years employed in land development focused on construction sites.  More recently ran a business that provided services related to waterproofing/epoxy flooring/ injection/protective coatings.
