Michael Pierson and Manon Mitchell were instrumental in marching the head table into the Crystal Ballroom at the Palliser Hotel for the annual address by Mayor Naheed Nenshi to our Club. President Rob called the meeting to Order and we sang O’Canada. Dahlia Mostafa provided the invocation.

President Rob thanked the volunteers who assisted in selling lunch tickets, Bruce Miller, Ken Moraes, Colette Bielech and Gord Cummings.  Carmen Goss introduced the Visitors, Guests, and Birthdays.

Bruce Fenwick then took to the podium to speak about the Calgary Rotary Clubs Foundation (CRCF). The CRCF is managed by a Board of Directors comprised of members from each participating club. The funds are then distributed annually to the member clubs which in turn are tasked to donate these returns to worthy Calgary-based, non profit/charitable organizations. Bruce presented a cheque for $1,705,026 from the CRCF for this year's contribution.

Rick Irvin then told us about  the 20th annual Stay In School golf tournament being held on June 27th. Many members have signed-up and there is still room for you and your friends. It is a modified Scramble format so it means that new golfers can play and enjoy the day just as much as the enthusiastic low handicappers and the prizes are worth the team effort.

Ken Moraes reminded us not to forget to buy tickets for the Rotary Sneak A Peek night on Thursday July 7. Details are on the web site. You can purchase Stampede passes so you don't have to stand in line.

Michael Broadhurst made an announcement on behalf of the Syrian Support Program. He has been mentoring a couple who were formally a broadcast engineer and a lawyer but due to difficulties in finding work they have decided to start a catering business called Syrian Cusine Made with Love. Michael encouraged members to consider hiring their company for any upcoming events small or large. Contact Michael.

David Bromwich spoke about engaging members by offering the following advice:
1) attend lunch meetings;
2) join committees;
3) volunteer for the BBQs;
4) consider donating your time or money

Brom reminded us all to always consider the 4 way test in all we things you say or do. Demonstrate engagement in order to recharge your Rotary batteries and increase your knowledge. Being an active member will ensure that our club operates effectively. His comments were received with applause!
