On June 9th, during the Diversity Cup weekend, there is a community Health and Resource fair, mainly organized by the East Health Clinic. A group of volunteers are needed to help set up, take down, greet, and direct people. Shift is from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m at the Bob Bahan Aquatic & Fitness Centre, a Hub location in Greater Forest Lawn.

We encourage you to connect with Amy Ansell, Major Gifts Officer at United Way of Calgary & Area, if interested in the above volunteer opportunities.   Amy can be reached by email at amy.ansell@calgaryunitedway.org or by phone at 403-410-1854.
COMMUNITY HUBS LEGACY PROJECT
Update and Invitation
“…the power of combined effort knows no limitation.” Paul Harris, Founder of Rotary

In June 2017, the Rotary Club of Calgary officially entered into an agreement with United Way of Calgary and the City of Calgary to become an active Community Hubs partner. Community Hubs are a key recommendation of Enough for All, Calgary’s poverty reduction strategy and will make a difference in the lives of nearly 200,000 Calgarians who live in the six priority communities.

One in ten individuals experience food insecurity, in Alberta. In Calgary, 47% of Calgary Food Bank clients are families with children. The Village Square Community Hub launched a Food Bank depot in September 2017, to better meet the community’s needs around access to healthy, affordable food. Through our partnership with the Community Hubs Initiative, we have an opportunity to volunteer with the Food Bank and support this important resource. In November Rotarians participated in a walking tour around the Sunalta community and heard about the exciting details of the Sunalta Hub space. December 1st, Rotarians were on hand at the launch of Fuse33 in Greater Forest Lawn.  This Hub-friendly Makerspace is an exciting example of innovative approaches to increasing social inclusion and economic participation, a hallmark of Hub work.
