Leveraging Rotarian Competencies = Vocational Service
Franco Savoia
Vocational Service is all about leveraging Rotarian competencies and experience for greater and lasting impact in our city. Here's how our members and our club are involved. What talents and expertise do you have as a Rotarian that you can put to work in our community?
Here are some examples for vocational service in our city:
IT consulting with the Distress Centre
As the Major Donations Committee reviewed the Distress Centre’s application for support for computers, Gerard D’Melo, a RCCD member and was asked to use his IT knowledge and expertise. In the discussions with the agency, he assisted in identifying the need for training and completing an IT assessment and an IT strategic plan. RCCD and the Rotary Club of Calgary North provided some funds for computers. As a follow up step, four Rotary Helps YYC clubs are meeting with the agency to develop a plan to implement Gerard’s recommendations.
Food Collaborative YCC and its need for Branding and Development of a logo
Rotary is a member of the Food Collaborative working to increase food security in our city. The collaborative needs assistance in developing a logo and its brand. Optimizing her skills and competencies in branding, Meaghan Ralston, one of our club’s newest members, offered and has been invited to assist the collaborative in this initiative.
Shared Services
Our Major Donations Committee is convening a second gathering of the Club’s community partners in late spring to explore shared services such as IT, Human Resources and Financial resources. Through these conversations, club members’ skills can be brought to bear in developing greater efficiencies among agencies and community organizations.
Leveraging the diverse talents of club members with our financial resources can, and will, have a deepened and long-standing impact in our community. Community Service + Vocational Service = Impact!
